Hi!

I Jo. I am 46 years old, and finally figured out why life was on hard mode this year.

It was sort of thanks to my daughter...last year we were pursuing a dyslexia diagnosis for her, which took until this year to finalise, but along the way I did a lot of research and reading and kept coming across things about neurodivergence in girls and women, and the stuff about autism really resonated with me. A lot.

So, after going down a lot of dyslexia rabbit holes, I then dove into learning more about autism. And the more I read, the more sure I was that I was in the right place.
I did then go for a diagnosis - and here we are! :D

Anyway, hope to chat and meet people here

Welcome to Wrong Planet.

You wrote that you were going down a dyslexia rabbit holes. So I looked up dyslexia on the internet. It said:
Dyslexia is a learning disorder that involves difficulty reading due to problems identifying speech sounds and learning how they relate to letters and words.

O.K., I remember this condition. It can be hereditary. According to the internet:
Dyslexia is regarded as a neurobiological condition that is genetic in origin.

O.K. I understand now. Some members of a family have it in mild form and others much more seriously.

The human brain is much more complex then most people understand. This is because we have multiple brains. One that exist on the right side of our skull and the other on the left side. As a child grows into adults a transformation is complete and the left side of the brain becomes the dominant brain, the daytime brain and the right side becomes the support brain, the brain that exist in our sleep states (REM and NREM sleep). But some of us experience a death before this transitional, phase (around age 12) and a brain flip takes place. When this happens, the right side becomes the dominant brain. It is almost like we exist on the wrong planet.

So some of the problems that dyslexia individuals face in learning how to read. It takes a lot of effort, but can be accomplished with hard work.

Here is a description of dyslexia. I may have had a similar condition when I was a young child. I took a class that was called speed reading when I entered the first year of high school and they taught me how to read. It was the strangest class I ever had. They taught me how to break apart all the words in a paragraph and find the most important word and then look for the second most important word and then begin to construct a paragraph in pieces. In other words they taught me how to read from the inside out. It actually worked. It allowed me to read the most complex detailed paragraph and understand what was being said. That enabled me to go to college and obtain a degree in Physics.

My problem was actually that I was not reading too slow but rather too fast. But my short term memory deleted information way too quickly and I forgot what I was reading. So it was a different form of learning. There are several coursed in Speed Reading that exist today and I do not believe they are all the same, so beware.
