So. There was a girl in high school who I kind of had a crush on, but I never really had the time and money to have a relationship in high school. During sophomore year, we would walk home together when my dad had to work late. Now, I’m in college and she just transferred school to mine. I fear that if I try reconnecting with her, my romantic feelings would resurface. I want to have more friends, but I don’t feel like I’m ready for romance yet and I feel like being around her is a gateway to it. What should I do?

I'll bet that since she just transferred to a new school, she would welcome having a friend she already knows there.

If she gets wind that you are there and you do not reach out to her, what is she going to think of you then?

You miss 100% of the shots you do not take. Just be her friend.
