When you transfer money using Zelle or PayPal or Venmo, how does it work? Do they see your bank account number? Or you just transferring money using your email address or phone number.

With PayPal, it's possible to give them your bank card details so they can suck money out of your account to pay for what you've bought using PayPal, but I don't do that, I put money into PayPal myself via a bank transfer - i.e. I log into my bank and send PayPal some money. To buy things from vendors that do PayPal, I just click the PayPal button on their website and (if I remember right) that takes me to my PayPal account where I authorise the payment. There may be other ways I haven't tried. Mostly I use it to avoid giving my card details out on the Web to a lot of vendors, which I think carries a risk of the card being hacked.

Warning: I heard PayPal are automatically opting people into a thing where they sell your activity info to advertisers. It's supposed to be possible to opt out, but somebody said new accounts won't be able to. It barely affects me because I use ad blockers, and hardly ever see an ad, but I don't like my info being passed on.
