I disagree. People can continue to say why something won't happen if they want.
I am feeling good about my project. Today has been a better day already.

Thanks for your comments everyone and I hope you all find peace in your lives.

What's the point of asking for opinions if you're just gonna ignore any opinion you don't like in favor of your own self-love?

Why explicitly ask if you're being unrealistic if you don't think you are, and refuse to be told so? Why not just make a post that says "I want to be told I'm right!"

If you didn't think people were begrudging your success here, then why even bring it up?

And if people here didn't want you to be successful then why would they tell you explicitly "stick to piano and you are more likely to succeed"? That's literally supporting you being successful, and indicating it's likelihood. The very fact that you have been successful as a musician but have not been successful with your script seems to corroborate the above assessments.

And nobody is saying success is impossible, they're just saying that that one script isn't actually as good as you think it is - at worst they're saying that success will take more work than just writing one script and harping on it forever.

If you want to feel good about it, that's fine, that's what a passion project is. At least for those of us that can't deliver enough at the box office to allow for it to happen. Spielberg is a good example, he tends to do a movie for the money and then one that's more for himself.

And either way, it is fine, just don't expect to have your luck change if you continue to put all these eggs in this one basket. And, I'm not even suggesting that you give up on it, but realize that if it were going to happen with this project,it probably would have, and a new project just increases the number of options to get a yes.

I didn't explicitly ask for opinions. This is an open forum. Anyone can read and provide an opinion.
What do you achieve by getting emotional?

Ya did tho. In addition to the thread title literally asking "Unreasonable Expectations?" you also said:

What do you achieve by claiming I'm being emotional? Even if true, it doesn't invalidate my observations, or otherwise change anything.

You said earlier that I have 'peculiar ideas about how the world works.'

You need to realize that individually we have the power to shape the world around us.
Your comments give me the impression that you don't have the influence you want to have.

I don’t think anyone in this thread would suggest that we don’t have the power to shape the world around us and our experience in it to a certain extent. If I decided to get back into writing as I plan on doing in the near future, I would have the choice and the power to continue honing my craft and to work towards writing something that might interest publishers (or just readers if I decided to self-publish). Trying to grow as a writer would be within my power although there’s chance and luck involved when it comes to the reception of one’s work. Also, even with all the effort in the world, not everyone has the same ability or potential for success. Success with a particular goal may not be achievable even if an individual desperately wants it.

I’m saying again that your expectations for this particular script are unrealistic.

This looks like a dishonest, ad hominem-ish attempt at shifting the focus of the discussion because it’s not going your way.

Yep, my wife completely destroyed our marriage trying to use her mind to overpower reality. The sad thing is that the marriage could have worked, it's just that she absolutely refused to do any of the necessary work. I saw her putting far more effort into doing these fake magical rituals than actually addressing the issues we had. I am not looking forward to what happens when the delusion finally is pierced and she sees the consequences of it.

A similar thing seems to be happening here. This particular script isn't getting any traction and likely won't. Switching to a new idea or a new area to focus altogether might get better results, but sometimes it's hard to recognize when things have stuck in a way that progress is extremely unlikely without some sort of fundamental change. As hard as it can be to admit at times, no change brings no change. If you're not changing something, then the only change that will come is what comes from random chance.

Your opinion though on my script has no influence on it's success.
Surely you realize this?

I'm in touch with an entertainment law firm.

This script will make me a millionaire.

The opinions of others on a message board have no bearing on my success.

It seems like opinions stated here in addition to your experience over the past ten years may tell you something.

Most writers don’t rely on one work. They write, revise, and edit to the best of their ability and then work on other projects which, in turn, gives them more practice to grow and develop. Even if their first script, manuscript, or whatever doesn’t sell, a subsequent one might.

It looks like you are more interested in making a quick buck than on the actual work. Such a stance may be holding you back unlike perspectives that focus more on the act of creation and personal growth - whether that involves writing, music, or any other skill-based activity.

This is a funny comment from the person who's major complaints are that they're unable to influence desirable outcomes for themselves.

Your comments give me the impression that you're lashing out in an unsuccessful attempt to influence me in some manner.

You know nothing about me, so claiming that I have some manner of insecurity related to an inability to influence just comes off as a desperate wild stab in the dark, hoping that it connects. I am not so easily wounded, and my list of accomplishments would happily disagree with your insinuation.

I hope you realize that when it comes to the success or failure of a work of media, whether music, writing, video, comedy, or whatever, the opinions of other people are literally what make a work successful or a failure. Nobody's art succeeds without the approval of the masses. That approval is literally what gives it value. Nobody pays a million dollars for a painting that nobody likes or wants. Rock stars aren't rock stars without fans buying their music and going to their concerts.

Also, what exactly do you expect an entertainment law firm to help you with in this matter?

I'm interested in profiting from my work. Nothing wrong with that.
When you say 'making a quick buck' you dismiss the 10+ years I've invested into my dream.
It's actually an ignorant comment, but it doesn't bother me.

Perhaps you should consider why you continue to return to this thread. Maybe the fact that I have a dream is making you look deeper within yourself.

I stated an opinion. I don't have any 'major complaints' at the moment. Just enjoyed a nice meal and root beer after a pleasant walk outside. Feeling good about life. The title of the thread isn't a reflection of how I feel at any given moment.

What you say in your final paragraph is true. Not telling me something i don't know already.
Again, like the other poster, maybe consider why you keep returning to this thread.
I feel good about my prospects.

You spent 10 years trying to sell a script, not ten years working diligently on improving your skills.

I return to this thread to address the points that are in the title, the OP, and in subsequent posts. My aspirations are irrelevant as far as the overall topic in this thread is concerned although your dishonest attempts to yet again shift the focus or shut down criticism/differing viewpoints are noted.

The title of the thread indicates otherwise.

If you don't care about our opinions, why do you keep responding to us?

This exact quote wasn't aimed at me, but I was directed towards it, so I shall respond to it.

I looked within myself, and remembered all the dreams that I've already succeeded at. So I'm not sure what you're on about - other than the obvious ad-hominem as has been stated.
