No, if we all curl up into a ball when things look bad, things can only get worse.

Things get better by people investing effort into making things better and the more people who flinch and cower, the fewer people are left to keep fighting, which only makes the fight that much harder.

We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.—some problematic British guy

Copying a comment I read elsewhere, edited for clarity:

Quote:
China's A2/AD strategy hinges on the assumption that the American public would be unwilling to support a war past a major loss of life, such as the sinking of a single aircraft carrier.

I would target every centre of support for the incoming government that is unlikely to have top-tier defence. DC will be well-protected—will second-tier industrial cities along the border be?

Our advantage is that while we expect to lose, they expect this to be a cakewalk, and we will show them it will be anything but.

Thanks to NORAD and NATO, Canada has as much of an understanding of US doctrine and assets as vice-versa.

A serious attempt to annex Canada would be seen as a far-right authoritarian project, and on day one we would have tens of millions of allies among American citizens.

The French Resistance during the Second World War were a useful source of intelligence and logistical support for the Allies, clogging up the works of Germany and the puppet Vichy regime with personal and deniable acts of sabotage, en masse. This will be an asymmetric advantage. We will have more sympathizers there than they will have here.

We have seen the US military fail against insurgencies in Vietnam, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Imagine that with Canadian know-how, resources, cultural proximity, and the world's longest shared border. Few countries are as ready to infiltrate each other as we are.

I hope we have our assets in place now.

Trump's disrespectful behavior toward our neighbors scares me.

For national security reasons, we NEED to be on friendly terms with neighboring countries. Otherwise, our neighbors will seek friends elsewhere, and we may end up with Chinese, Russian, North Korean, etc. troops at our southern border and elsewhere in the Americas.

He just wants you looking the other way while he does dodgy sh!t and rips off the American public.

I suppose that's possible.

Another conceivable explanation is that Trump might be getting paid by someone in China or Russia to stir up s**t with our neighbors and thereby weaken or destroy our alliances.

With all the issues I’m having with PTSD, that would be an excellent idea! Again, quoting T.S. Eliot:

This is the way the world shall end, not with a bang but a whimper.

Threats are needed because it would be a step backwards for them.
Maybe Trump ought to fix this country first?

For years Trump has been saying that his plans for healthcare are "two weeks away."
It is so bad that I think a lot of Americans don't know the difference between Obamacare and the Affordable Health Care act! They are the same thing!

Americans still don't use the metric system. Speed limits are in miles per hour and they sell yardsticks in hardware stores.

If American states wish to be annexed by Canada they'd need to arrange to leave the USA first, which isn't likely to happen. They'd also need to both vote to be annexed by Canada as well as to get Canadian citizens to approve it.

Seems about as likely as Canadians voting to be annexed by the Trumpian regime, which is to say it ain't f****n' happening.

I know that. When I bring it up I'm going by how absurd this whole idea is. In a world that's so absurd that Trump would actually try to annex Canada, Greenland and Panama, I say let us New England states also try absurd stuff. lol.

The U.S.A. already leases land in Greenland for a military base. What else do we need there, for "strategic reasons"? If military analysts think we need a second military base there, then it seems to me that Trump's talk of annexing Greenland will only make them less willing, not more so, to lease us more land there.

That thought hadn't occurred to me.
If the USA (these days...DSA) annexed Canada think how much signage would have to be changed!

These days, we don't even need to manufacture paper to print manufactured money on.

I want Denmark or Sweden to annex the southern US and the heartland and bring civility and humanity to those regions.
