Saying Occupied makes me think of something like a confirmed bachelor. Someone who does not really have time or energy for a relationship because they're busy focusing on other things in their life. Occupied never applied to me when I was single even when I was trying to be busy doing things. I majorly HATED being single & being busy was kind of an attempt at bettering myself to increase my chances of getting a relationship & was also a band-aid fix distraction from the loneliness hell I felt.

I get what you mean about missing your exes. I still miss both of mine. I'm not sure if they'd have good things to say about me. We broke up on bad terms because we were having lots of problems, especially me. Trying to be friends or even just civil after was bad for both of us due to hurt feelings. I really do hope they're OK & doing well in life.

Occupied is a really interesting word to use about being in a relationship.

Are you occupied with someone? Or with the relationship itself?

Or do you just mean occupied as in not available, like a toilet cubicle?

Or are you occupied by them? Like a sort of benign demonic posession where you welcome the intrusion. Seems to me that's not wholly inaccurate.
