President of the World Jewish Congress, Ronald Lauder, made a similar statement earlier this week. @elonmusk is no Nazi—he’s a great friend of the Jewish people."
Rehashing what I have posted and written about in other threads. Others trying to debunk the idea that it was a Nazi salute have posted on social media very non MAGA celebrities and politicians using the same salute.

People making cavalier Nazi comparisons has been a bugaboo of mine for decades. Overuse of Nazi comparisons minimizes what the Nazis did and the bad people being compared to Nazis do. I wish I lived in a world where the term “Nazi” was similar to “n****r” used sparingly only in very specific contexts. Unfortunately we live in a world where “Nazi” is used to describe anybody with any perceived authoritarian tendencies. As a Jewish person I find that offensive.
Since “friend of the Jews” was brought up in the last few years various elements of the right have been love bombing Jews. Many Jewish leaders have welcomed this for realpolitik reasons and considering the history of persecution of Jews are grateful for any support for any reason. Thing is these right wingers are not our friends. At the moment for various reasons they perceive it is in their interest to support us. When that changes a lot of history suggests it will be very bad for us.
I don’t know what his intent was. Being Autistic reading body language is not my expertise. My guess is he was trolling progressives with the intent of creating a reaction that would make progressives look hysterical. Intent or not that is what happened. Intent or not all of this is a deflection from then actual problem that a person with too many authoritarian and bigoted tendencies is too close with the President of the United States.
