The fact that one has kids to feed/clothes does not invalidate the fact that 80k is a good income. OP implied his income was poor, rather than he had too many bills to pay.


It is all about perspective. If you make much more than 80k a year, it looks low in comparison. By the same measure, it looks very high to someone who makes and lives on 30k a year. Some places have very cheap living costs, so one can learn to make do on a small income.

I make a decent income per my living area, as it pays the bills. Yet, I have friends that I graduated with who make much more than me with the same degree. Most are in the $120K to $150K range. One shining star is a VP of a pharmaceutical company. His income is in the 10 million+ range, without stock options in the calculations. Good for him, I could not live his life, nor would I want to. Money does not motivate me much unlike my classmates.

Only 80k a year! ,isnt that still enough to rent a luxury apartment? or does even 80k not even get you a solid one bedroom aparment let alone 2 rooms? Idk to me that sounds like a lot of money but I suck at math, juust seems like with 80k a year you should be able to have like at least a clean apartment. Not have to settle for a slum apartment cause its all you can afford. LIke dammit me and my boyfriend are probably going to have to move from one slum to another once we see what options we can afford to move into. And I fear even with 80k you may get stuck in a crappy apartment complex. Idk if me and my boyfriend even have that much to work with with moving to a different apartment.

Yeah I feel ya. Except I don't have a partner so I am envious haha. I wish to be a DINK but at the same time my past relationships haven't been successful so I fear I don't think I will ever find a man. I might someday split rent with one of my siblings since I don't want to deal with roomies. If I ever move out. As for retirement, well that's a tough one. I guess it's my fate I will never afford a house. Maybe I will retire in the Philippines and live with my mom's relatives.

I have a Mensa level IQ and went to very excellent schools. But I have never been able to make substantial gain my entire life and I now live on a benefits income of $11,000 a year. I had never been able to make more than $2000 to $3000 a year for the decades that I tried to work. So even if you were, actually, academically inept, you are extremely well off financially compared to me.
