Hi, Earlier I posted some thoughts about the interview process but had some thoughts on virtual interviews that came to mind this morning and just thought I would make it a separate topic. I was thinking alot this morning about the concept of virtual interviews as a whole. It seems like the companies that stick to virtual interviews don't take you seriously as a candidate.
I know the argument for virtual interviews is it saves time and money. In my thinking though if a company really took and considered you seriously they would make their interest known by jumping at the chance to meet you in-person. Just a thought that I had and maybe it's incorrect. I know some like to do virtual interviews as screenings but I really question their use in the interview process. It kind of reminds me of dating in a way. If you're in the process of dating you would strive to meet that person eventually to see if there is a in-person connection. I'm wondering if this is maybe just another data point to consider about the organization when they decide to go this route. Those are just my thoughts but if anyone has any thoughts feel free to share!

Yes, it can be like a compatibility test.
I appreciate you sharing! They can be legitimate and it does lead to a in-person interview sometimes. I just wish more companies would tend to do in-person. I remember when you use to do a initial phone screening and then a in-person interview. Now after COVID all that has changed. I recently did a interview for a non-profit where it was virtual but it was just you doing the talking. They used a company called "Interviewstream" They had a prompt that asked questions and then the website recorded your interview answers. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen. I unfortunately don't think this is going to change and it's here to stay. It definitely feels like a compatibility test but I guess that's not a bad thing

Hmm. Perhaps I’m old fashioned but I would not do an online interview without a living person on the other side of the screen. In essence, you are describing a recorded interview, which is a bit creepy.
People are doing questionable things these days with video. I met a stranger this week at the dog park who was wearing the new video sunglasses. He didn’t know that I was aware but the experience prompted me to wonder if that’s the new method of interviewing people.

It was very strange and I didn't like it at all. I actually called the non-profit today to follow-up and was told they were still reviewing the video applications. They ended up extending the application period for another week which was disheartening. I really hope this type of recorded video interviews dosen't become common place but I can see companies going that route because it saves them the trouble and time. I kind of fear for what the future holds but I guess all one can do is adapt.
