Not long ago my dad asked me if for example if we were to go abroad to Greece, would I be okay about meeting us there and getting on the plane to where they are ? I hesitated and probably didn't really feel like doing that. I've never been to Gatwick or wherever on my own. My dad did say well think about it, we are not making you if you're not comfortable. It was just an idea.

Don't twist it. It's not advice. It was a request, which he said he was ok with you declining.

As for whether you have should have declined it, that train has left the station. It does seem to be in keeping with your customary behavior.

Sometimes I think you just need to put yourself out there and not overthink things when an amazing opportunity comes along, especially when it’s as positive as this one. I would’ve agreed to it even if doing so would’ve taken me out of my comfort zone and made me anxious in some ways.
