Or what is your overall approach? I’m not asking for specifics or meaning to pry. I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this topic.

It’s something I struggle with because it’s hard for me to talk about stuff offline.

Great question! When I go to therapy I usually approach it as an open book telling the therapist everything that's been on my mind or I'm having issues with. I know for difficult issues it can be difficult to open up. I usually am open during the first session for the most part. I think though for the individual it can depend on their comfortability in sharing different topics and that may take some time and several sessions before they are comfortable. Hope this maybe helps ok.

Thanks for sharing! That is helpful.

I went to the same therapist for a while but never got that comfortable even though I liked her. I was supposed to do a trauma narrative with her, but I was obviously so uncomfortable and anxious she changed her mind about it unless I wanted to. I’m thinking about trying again. Logically, I know that they’ve seen and heard it all, but it’s still difficult for some reason.

I like therapy that goes on for years. I, then, only talk according to what I feel comfortable with. I prefer psychologists and psychiatrists. I have had bad experiences with social workers. It takes years for me to talk about some things. I go by what I am comfortable with. I have found, for me, it's better to be careful. It better to have said too little than too much, too soon.

I didn't do therapy, but I did see a counselor for a time, about a year before covid. I would have liked to of gone longer but 80$ a session weekly was more than I could afford.

When I said “therapy,” I meant therapy or counseling. I should’ve made that clear.

It sucks that it was so expensive for you. I’m fortunate in that I can get it for free.

I couldn't. It's really difficult for me to be open.

I've been through so many psychologists in the last few years, it isn't funny. The last one was Italian and she got told to go back to Italy as she'd overstayed her Visa. Even though she had a strong accent, we got along really well. I was on the verge of telling her something really personal when she left.

So now I'm not seeing a psychologist.

My therapist knows everything there is to know about me and in my case that's why it works

I figured something out recently - something that’s been bothering me for a while, but I don’t think I’ll ever feel comfortable sharing it with a therapist in person because I struggle with sharing things that are much less personal. It is a conundrum for me.

Me in therapy: “The weather is really something today, isn’t it?”

Well, I’m okay with talking about certain real issues, like religious trauma and some family stuff, but it’s hard to go beyond that.

Sometimes it's a lot more than just saying things out loud

For me I had to be prepared to feel vulnerable and that's a really massive thing and also I had to trust him because I literally had no choice....I would have been sectioned otherwise because I was really ill

But it's different for everyone
