Hi everybody, glad to meet you! I'm 28 and my old therapist diagnosed me with ASD 2 years ago, but I still wasn't officially tested. I guess now that I finally fit in among a community, I'm afraid of taking the test and not being ASD, just being weird and alone. I know that's not likely to happen, but hey, try telling that to my brain. I never had friends and that always made me incredibly sad, so if you're up for it, I'd like to get to know you better :)

Welcome to WP! I hope you like it here.

And, as you are probably aware, an official ASD diagnosis it not required here. Nor is an unofficial diagnosis. You can even be certain you are not on the Autism Spectrum. A formal assessment is your choice (unless you live somewhere where it is not an available choice) or your personal circumstances (like for getting treatment, etc.) requires an assessment.

Personally, I wanted a formal assessment because I think I'm near the threshold for being or not being on the Autism Spectrum.

aurora91 Welcome to Wrong Planet

You wrote that you would like to have a friend. Sometimes it is hard to make friends. Sometimes we make a friend and they fly away after a few years. Some say they wish to be our friends but they lie.

Over my lifetime I had two good friends they were forever friends. They were a little like me. So how can I help you achieve your goals. In the world around 50 percent of humans females will have some of your traits. They are out there but you must seek them out. There are two types of people introverts and extroverts. You are an introvert and you can make friends with other introverts. They will be a little bit like yourself. Let me try and describe these two groups.

Extroverts. When they get sad and depressed, they find other extroverts and talk and talk and talk. They jump about like fireflies. The conversations are short and rarely go into depth. But talking melts away stress and within a few minutes they are happy because their stress has disappeared.

Introverts are very different. When they experience stress, they need to be alone.

So the best approach is to find other introverts and make friends. But introverts many times sit alone at home. They are out there and you just need to find them and introduce yourself and become friends. You have to be brave. You have to take the first step. So how do you start? You start with the things that you find interesting. Lets see, you wrote:

Your interests are: writing, art, tv shows, movies, psychology, literature, philosophy. This is your flight path. There are people out there with these interest. Often times they form clubs and have meetings. Find a club and go to their meetings and make friends.

Hey! I'm new here too and in a similar boat to you. Wishing you much friendship and community love - ND friendships can be so powerful and are well worth the wait imo

ferretliker67, Welcome to WP to you, also. From your (barely) earlier post I see you have an academic interest in Autism. Do you think that, after graduation, Autism will be your professional focus? Or, just within the scope of your professional interests?

I'm guessing you are not on the Autism Spectrum, otherwise you would likely have already mentioned that. But, a polite interest in the topic is more than sufficient reason to be here...and with your academic and professional interests in the topic, I'm hoping you stay here and are able to help some of the people that wander through here.

I am curious where you are, however. Like, which country. That could affect some of the discussions you get in.

Me? Professionally diagnosed Autism Spectrum Disorder, Level 1 (Mild)—with a note that I also satisfy the criteria previously associated with Asperger's Syndrome. However, I was diagnosed days before my 65th birthday and have been comfortably retired since I was 56...and happily married since age 45. I'll understand if your professional interest concludes I'm boring. :)
