Many of the Canadian millennials we spoke to tended to view the word “religion” as:

(1) anti-modern;

(2) conservative;

(3) American; and

(4) colonial.

a telling reason, one among 4 discrete reasons given, is that religion is perceived to be "American." perhaps our northern neighbors have decided to turn their backs on us. they seem to have put us in the same backwards category that many 'muuuricans have put the middle east, another place where religion has made a mess of things. will the rest of the world follow?

This sounds like there might be disharmonie in religion Groups..!
but in olden days Church was the center of the community in older days.? So church leadership, maybe undermined?
New Corporate Governmental ideas of right and wrong ? 8O

Religious belief is on the decline in the US as well.

Then I must be a millennial trapped in a gen x's body.

It's hard to believe Canada was once more religious than the US, but I had to go to a Christian school in the 70s and 80s. My mom went to the same school when she was a kid. But we always lived a pretty secular life.
