Yesterday, at ca 12:30 local time, an armed and masked man entered Campus Risbergska (an education center for adults) in Örebro, 200 km west of the Swedish capital, Stockholm.

Videos have shown people fleeing the campus, and shots were heard. People had hidden in parts of the school and buildings nearby, and for hours everyone was told to stay away from the area while police tried to get the situation under control.

Early reports told of people lying motionless on the ground, and 5 or 6 people taken to hospital.

Police have been tight lipped, but today they announced that 11 people are dead.

Little is known about the culprit, but it is assumed he is among the dead. He is around 35 years old, and is described as a loner with social issues. He was not part of any gangs.

Police are saying he probably acted alone, and that it's not terror related. They are still looking into motive.

This is the worst mass shooting in Sweden's history.

I was worried this afternoon because my big brother said he was taking adult education classes and was living only 30 km away from Örebro.
Then my little brother told me he'd moved to Östersund, 100km away so I doubt he'd travel that far.
Not that he's replied to my messages, but that's not unusual...him being as aspie as I.

Sounds like the usual MO for a mass-shooter.

Awful. Sadly, just another day here in the USA. At least Sweden doesn't have The NRA and their ilk.

I hope you've heard from him by now and that he's fine.

Yeah, it's awful.
By the way, Sweden is now looking into restricting access to weapons.

Gun violence in the US is a primary reason people here want to emigrate to countries like Sweden.

If I emigrated there, it would be due to the laws against hate speech, and its robust social safety net.

Sweden gunman appears to have shot himself - but motive still unclear

"Swedish media have named the attacker as Rickard Andersson, 35, who was said to have been unemployed for more than 10 years and attended a special class for people with Asperger's and high-functioning autism, Swedish channel TV4 reports."
