WAG stands for weird alone guy.

I'm starting to think that the people I meet out in public think I am a WAG. I have noticed that I sometimes get strange looks from people while I am out and about.

I think there is three main reasons for this:

1. I am out during odd times of the day like the middle of the day on a weekday or late at night.

2. I dress kinda odd, I usually wear work clothes since I'm used to it since I've worked blue collar jobs for so long. Also, I currently don't have the energy to be shopping for appropriate clothing.

3. I look exhausted and sometimes depressed more often than not since I have been dealing with some chronic health issues for a little over six months now, that have caused me a lot of stress.

So, what are your thoughts on the matter? Can you relate to anything or all that I've said above?

From the title I thought you meant white anglo-saxon gnostic.

I didn't get married until I was 43. I never much considered how I appeared, but I supposed I would have been seen as unusual. I don't think I would have appeared tired. However, I considered that in urban areas if I dress worse than the muggers, they would be afraid of me, so I suppose I may have been looked at askance.

In my hippie days I worked as an engineer. Salesmen would be shocked to meet me when they showed up, but in less than five minutes they would be able to engage in a technical discussion without being distracted.

No, they think of me as the guy who plays the guitar and sings reasonably well. It's good to be typecast like that. Plus I'm married. But when I'm in the UK it's rather different, because the local music scene there is practically dead, apart from the expensive venues for "superstars," and my old musician friends have moved too far away and have too many other responsibilities on them to bother much with music, though they're aware of the need to keep these things alive and do their best. Trouble is, their best isn't good enough to give me a social life.

So in the UK, people might think I'm weird and alone, if they even noticed I existed.

Funnily enough the acronym WAG in the UK more commonly stands for wives and girlfriends, and is usually applied to the partners of football stars.

Yeah, I saw the title and assumed the thread was going to be about that. I thought it was weirdly specific - do people assume you are dating a footballer?

Never heard it to mean Weird Alone Guy. The more you know, I suppose.

I'm from Canada and have only ever heard it in British media in regards to wives and girlfriends of soccer players.

I've heard of the acronym WAG before. And even if I did, I doubt that's what people would think. If they think at all.

Most people think I'm weird, but If I told them I'm autistic they'd say I'm too normal. That's what I think.

I'm pretty sure some people thought I was one because I seem kind of odd like with mannerisms, body language, & facial expressions. I was single for 8 years straight in my early 20s despite my best efforts to find a partner but I don't think simply seeming weird was a major reason why. Me being single was probably more because of being disabled & living in an area that was NOT disabled friendly.
