No I agreed with the part that while counselors are expected to do their job (and most do) some make mistakes. Its possible the counselor working with your grand-daughter made a mistake.

My 14 year old son was in an underfunded public school until very recently and is currently in a public charter school, not that anecdotal evidence means much here. There’s a lot of variation - too much variation - among states and individual school districts. Resources need to be more evenly distributed. That continues to be a major issue in education, and it warrants more national attention/regulation, not less.
Yes. I was born and raised in one of the bottom tier states for public education, and am now in one of the best (although I'm not in school anymore, obviously lol). It's absurd that any state is allowed to harm public education like what has happened in my home state.
They're more worried about forcing Christianity into schools and other culture wars BS than they are about improving schools. Which I mean is par for the course with right wing governance. They'll drive public schooling into a ditch so they can then turn around and complain about how bad it is so they can attempt to justify funding private indoctrinating schools.
