To work on my impression, I've been reading Emily Post's Etiquette, The Centennial Edition by Daniel Post Senning and Lizzie Post.
By the way, Emily Post is a lady who made a career out of good manners. She carved out humorous caricatures of the "Types of Talkers" that we all encounter - really funny. I think I'm like Mr. Noah Tall and Mrs. Mia Centrique.
Quote:
MR. NOAH TALL truly thinks he knows it all. No matter your expertise, you are nothing compared to him. Mr. Noah Tall has done it all, seen it all, and likely invented it all, too. The word actually precedes almost all of his comments. He cannot sit out and just listen to a conversation. While he might implode if he uses it, he desperately needs to learn the phrase "I don't know."
...
MRS. MIA CENTRIQUE is the sun and air. She is the star [sic] and we are all just members of her supporting cast to help her shine. She never asks, "How are you?" or responds with concern. Instead, she launches into how what you just said reminds her of something in her life. She is best taken in small doses by her friends and relatives. At work, she clears the break room quickly. If she would only ask a simple "What's new with you?" she could completely change the impression she gives.
