I love when I get autism NT-splained to me.

I don't understand how people can simultaneous know they don't understand jackshit about someone else's situation but also lecture that person on their situation. My brain can't do that sort of doublethink and it's almost impressive to watch someone engage in it.

I had to bit my tongue on that one recently. Guy went on to say "I think I'm a bit neurodiverse too, but of course, you can handle these things easily with a bit of meditation and willpower." Well, OK.

I'm not good at biting my tongue in those situations. I'd have been very tempted to say 'thresholds exist for a reason when it comes to diagnosing these sorts of concerns, if meditation and willpower were all it took, no one would actually meet the threshold to be identified as having a disability'.

But, I'm pretty disagreeable and generally prefer to 'have that fight now and get it over with' rather than putting up with rudeness or ignorance until I'm actually upset and less capable of articulating my position.

I've also noticed if you let people step on your toes regularly they start to feel entitled to step there whenever they feel like it. Establishing a boundary early and firmly makes other people less likely to keep stepping on your toes because they understand you won't tolerate it.
That's kind of like when I tell people, "If everyone was a little Autistic, then no one would be Autistic. If everyone was Autistic, there would be no need for a diagnosis, services, and accommodations as they would be integrated into normal society. Imagine the amount of effort and money we could save and the amount of stress that we would be spared."

Exactly, and that's a very good way of putting it.

I don't even entirely disagree with the notion that everyone's a little autistic, given that autistic traits are normal traits exaggerated to the point they're maladaptive. I just disagree with people who would try to use that dismiss the idea that some people's traits are severe enough that they interfere with their ability to be fully functional within our society.

Wow. Her ignorance. Look. I'm not an expert on the Special Olympics. I couldn't tell you who qualifies and who doesn't but at least I admit I don't know.

I hate people who don't know something and then just make assumptions to fill in their missing knowledge. Like if she doesn't know about a thing, she should just admit she doesn't know about it.

Try to be tolerant of the NTs, most have no concept of how autism affects someone with a high IQ

I thought someone besides me might appreciate this,

NT syndrom is a neurobiological disorder characterized by preoccupation of social concerns,
delusions of superiority, and obsession with conformity.
THERE IS NO KNOWN CURE!

That's funny but very true also. I appreciate Laura's dry wit.
