I hate to say it, but for Hackman, his wife, and dog all dead together sounds too much to be coincidence.

Yeah, they don't mention a CoD, but there's only so many likely explanation based on the facts as presented so far.

So far they've found no evidence of gas leaks, but did find scattered pills =(

I read that he played Lex Luthor in Superman and Superman II, but I really don't know much of anything about him.

He was truly a first rate actor - - not movie star, but genuine actor. To see his best work, I'd suggest the movie Mississippi Burning, in which he plays a southern born FBI agent during a real life search for the bodies of three civil rights workers, during which he has to confront his own prejudices.

He played Popeye Doyle in the French Connection. His character is the namesake of Popeye's Chicken.
