I thought about something else. Competitive people will also get close to anyone they feel threatened by make it sound like they want to be your friend. When in reality, they don't have your best interest at heart and want to know everything about you. People like this often enjoy to see you struggle and will most likely brag about how they are getting ahead.
Competitiveness is one of my first major red flags. Like you said, competitive people are part of a whole complex, and they want to see others fail. But personally, I cannot even tolerate the competitiveness alone. It's so annoying. You'll be there thinking you are sharing something, and they'll ruin it. "Hey, check this song out. I love it." "Oh yeah, mine is much better."
