I don't think I'm a disappointment to my parents so much as I've been a disappointment to myself.
When I was an undiagnosed teenager my mother wanted me to be interested in other things besides cartoons and animation. I guess she thought I would have better peer relations and it would make my life at school better. Wrong.
My therapist at the time even said my lack of interest in doing other kinds of art was being like a baby that decides never to learn to walk because they're so good at crawling. I thought that was a load of bull. Meanwhile, my brother was a good guitar player, but no one was telling him he should play the piano or the clarinet.
What did your parents make you do, that you did not want to do?
eat, that was always a struggle
gymnasticclub, sports, swimming lessons (never succeded, but much later), birthday parties
oh dentist too, he'd bore? (pierce?) as much as humanly possible every time i came,
and then i got braces and needed to go every week on my bicycle
practising piano in the old (cold) house,
work - that wasn't that bad, but at most ends there would be: the great explosion
- or one year we worked through summer holidays(as usual) and at the end on family get together dad would say we were useless- great thanks & bravo for that stunning information
when kicking me out the house- he'd say i wouldn't manage on my own (and i ruined their marriage, that was a bit farfetched all things considered)
What did you want to do, that your parents didn't let you do? idk, later probably,
another silly thing, i brought home a possible bf, just met myself and he came with me bc i had to go home, dad got a fit- its him or me, and all that jazz
What job did your parents want you to get? What is your job?
idk in hindsight i think it was a trophy husband probably,
was bound for uni but i feel i sabotaged myself ahead of that
In what ways did you disappoint your parents? see above ^^
My mom was into healthy eating. At the time, it bothered me because we could have had more to eat if we got cheaper food. But now I am glad that I have more of a taste for simple, healthier food as opposed to things that would not be good for me.
She read to me out loud and read a lot herself. I enjoyed this and have continued this in my own household. It continues an old-timey type of humor that we have in our family.
My mom took me out of school at the end of the second grade. I wanted to go back but she didn't let me. I more than made up for that as an adult.
My mom's dream job for a woman seemed to be what her mother-in-law did, she was a legal secretary. That was the kind of job she saw for me. My mom was a baby boomer and her mind still had gender roles for careers. When I was young I wanted to have the most important job possible and make the most money I could. But I also thought I would be satisfied to live in a particular city, in a particular kind of house, and have a big TV with cable. I wanted a white collar job where I would wear a suit to work. I did have that kind of job when I was working. I miss working. I am disabled now. I would go back to work if there was a viable treatment for my condition.
Strangely, although my mother is an insane and unpleasant person, I learned a great deal from her that I use in my everyday life now. I learned to cook, how to teach myself anything (because she did not teach me), how to hold my temper and deal with any kind of person, how to do household chores in third world conditions if needed (which makes it easier for me to do them in first world conditions).
