When I talked to a close friend on the phone today, she mentioned that I could have my support worker talk to me/help with making friends. I just don't find that idea realistic since I haven't made any new in person friends (not counting online friends) in over 10 years. Do any of you feel the same way?

I don’t have a support worker, but maybe she thought your ally could provide a list of support groups in your area. Or hobby groups.

People seem to be connecting via discord and other meetup groups online. Others find groups at places like the local library or book shop.

I wouldn’t know because I haven’t been able to find anyone with similar interests in my community. I don’t have any biological children or grandkids so I can’t relate with many of my own peers. I’m an only child and my parents were only children, no siblings or family. People like me usually find connections in nature and companionship with our pets. I meet people at the parks but they are fleeting acquaintances.

Maybe ask around in your community and neighborhood?
