I'm unusual in the sense that I go by how songs sound, rather than popularity. That's why I listen to songs from before 1970 and current music--I don't care when a song is from as long as it has that rock sound.

In a lot of circles I don't think that that is unusual. Most people I have known don't listen to music because it is popular.

I agree!

Even if my taste is not unusual, I like to listen to only few bands and a few songs over and over again which is probably something unusual.

For sure, I'm into oldies and new wave. I'll just name off my favorite artists.
Billy Joel, Simon & Garfunkel, The Buggles, DEVO, They Might Be Giants.
It wouldn't be so weird if I was in my 40's maybe but I'm 19 so others my age find it "odd".

Depends on how you define "unusual".

I try not to listen to anything twice until I've heard everything available, which is taking a while. That's not to say I don't save everything to playlists or crates but by the time stuff has reached the charts I've usually gone off it, if it gets that far. I try not to look at artist names when I'm adding to playlists and there are very few albums I keep in their entirety now. In my childhood I could never dream of having access to as much as we do now so have a fear of missing out on somebody else I'm yet to discover. I am not allowed to follow all the artists and labels I follow in real life on SoundCloud as they have a limit of 2000 even when paying. I guess that makes me weird, that I have an eclectic taste of that scale. Shrug.

Video game music, anime and cartoon are my preferred types

I only like some modern top-40 country & pop

Rap (Hip-hop)/RnB is okay I guess but I try to steer clear of the overplayed and overpromoted singers like Taylor Swift!! !

To combat this, I am launching an online VGM radio station on Live365 once I have enough money!

Grindcore isn't very popular, but it's probably been my favourite genre since high school.

I always liked classical as well as singer/songwriter stuff, especially folk music. As I’m getting older, that’s getting less and less weird. When I was a teenager, I didn’t know anyone else who liked classical music.

I like music. A lot. I try to listen to so many different things. I often discover bands/artists that are unheard of. Some are weird and out there. I like the outsider/loner genre (Lord Litter, Konrad, Hasil Adkins to name a few). There is just way too much out there. One of my favorite recent discoveries is this group called Neither/Neither World. They are described as neo/apocalyptic-folk. Sometimes I want to share – in discussion and obviously in listening. It is difficult because I don't have many people in my life to talk about things with, including music.

We've got a few music threads here you can post stuff in. No guarantees that anyone will listen to what you post, but they're also interesting to see the range of different people's tastes.
