Given a reasonable intelligence, we can all adapt. At 70, I've recently been described as "charming" which would not have ben the case when I as your age!

In my own case, my own autism just shifts and it rules can change overtime, but not necessarily "better" or "worse".

It's more like what my own autism is reacting to or interacting with any other factors as a human, deeper or shallower than just the layers and factors of neurodivergence.

Mine mostly involved improving desirable or overcoming unwanted internal factors that translates into thoughts, feelings, behaviors, perception, experiences, processing, etc.

Yes it did get better with experience. Even before I knew what ASD was, I was improving. People tend to get better over time. The traits don't change, but we figure out coping strategies and we learn, especially about social matters. But it might not look like it's getting better when the environment becomes more challenging. And some Aspies might be unlucky enough to go downhill for their entire lives.

"Autism" is part of me. I don't think it has improved or changed with age but I think I have.

I think I've gotten better at working in spite of and sometimes with my Autism.

I have probably learned to adapt better to the non-aspie world.

Yes a lot of it is about learning how the NTs tick, but even if we shot them all there's also executive function problems and suchlike, that would happen regardless.

Yes. I do ok with the executive function. I did make it through college pretty well academicwise. I wish I had better drive/motivation. I could do without the depression I get at times also

I did quite well with my O levels, but only when I realised the lessons weren't teaching me anything, and started taking the text books home and reading through them and taking my own notes in my own sweet way.

Somebody had this brilliant idea called student-centred learning where you'd choose what topics you wanted to study and design your own course, and the teachers would just be there in case you had any questions. Ever since I heard of it, I've not been able to understand why the whole education system isn't like that, but I suppose NTs actually get something out of conventional lectures, and I guess the employers feel more comfy with standard qualifications. Still, I've got AI chatbots these days and that works better than anything, as long as the chatbots doesn't make too many mistakes with its answers to questions. Employers' wishes don't matter to me any more 8) I learn what I'm interested in and ignore the rest.

The accreditation organizations usually want to see some standardization, to the point of ridiculousness often

I haven’t been officially diagnosed as being on the autism spectrum but a few people informed me when I turned 50. “You are autistic AF.” My whole world turned upside down because everything I thought to be true was false. On the bright side, most of the questions I had throughout my life were answered by the revelation of new knowledge. Everything has been piecing together like a puzzle ever since.

I’m the same me inside but my life has changed significantly as a result.

I’m an empath and a highly sensitive person as well.

I found Wrong Planet in my search for others who may be like me.

I don't think really got better, I think I just got better at masking and don't have as meltdowns as often now because I'm living by myself in an environment that doesn't overwhelm me or cause me constant anxiety or irritation.

To many NTs think you just grow out of autism when you get older, but you don't. It's a lifelong condition. Is it okay to call it a condition?

I think it's a fair word without
negative connotations. I was diagnosed at 45 which explained all the years up to that point, and went a long way to make others understand better (and myself too!)
but I wouldn't say I'm any more or any less autistic than I was at 18. There are better and worse phases of course......

Yes, and the effect on the student is a load of work that may be potentially useful one day but it probably won't be. I was always much worse if I didn't have a hands-on task to use the new learning on. I took to practical electronics very nicely because I wanted to make things. But I know very little about the aspects of it that weren't directly related to the things I wanted to make. I was tons better when I got my first job and was expected to do things instead of just filling my head with facts that were irrelevent to my concrete goals. The man who hired me said I was mad not to go to university, but I knew what would have happened if I'd done that. I'd have fallen behind and blown it.

I feel like I'm getting worse. When I was a teen I used to go out at least. Now I avoid going out.

Spikey and intermittent impairment depending on unknown biological factors
