I Hope My School NEVER Blocks It Because It Has Felt SO Validating To Be Able To Talk To People Who Think Like Me. Seriously. This Website Is Literally THE THING I Needed. I Really Do Wish I Had Discovered This Place Earlier. And Yes, I Know It's Only Been Like Three Days But WHATEVER.


WRONG PLANET RULES!! !!

I can't imagine why they would want to block it, but school authorities do things I don't understand or approve of. A lot of them in the UK impose uniforms although I've seen no hard scholarly evidence that they do any overall good. What's that about?

I suppose technically might be possible to access WP through a browser app using the satellite connection instead of the school's censored wi-fi, but I don't know enough about it to recommend that way of doing it.

Maybe you could download WP pages at home, read them offline at school, and write your posts to a text file to paste and send when you get back home again?

Anyway, it's a problem that hasn't happened yet.

I agree WP can be a great place, especially if you don't get low-level bullies trying to score points off you, though it's kind of fun to challenge them if you're both careful and thick-skinned enough. I've thoroughly enjoyed talking with the kind of people who float my boat here. It's some kind of social interaction and support service.

I heard about one state (not the one I live in) that, rather than having a blocked website list, they have a list of websites that aren't blocked. It's a short list.

It has even frustrated teachers who found some website of educational value but, lacking admin privilege has to go through the lengthy and unpredictable process of submitting these websites to the board for approval.

To make matters worse this block is applied to school issued devices, rather than the school's network, thus making it impossible to access the wider web regardless of which wifi you connect to.

For some underprivileged students who don't own their own computers, this may limit their learning opportunities.

Probably because they don't want school resources wasted on socializing.

Just don't it become such an obsession that it prevents you from daily tasks and activities such as school work, hygiene and sleep, and you should be fine.

Then they have an interesting definition of waste. I heard one view that if the social thing isn't working then the academic side won't work either. OTOH, some of the unhealthy crap that passes off as socialising on the Web probably wouldn't qualify. What makes me mad is when they throttle the art subjects to allow more time for the "three Rs," because employers aren't much interested in whether or not a candidate can play the trombone.

I suppose if I were running things the world would collapse, but hey, it's probably collapsing anyway without my help.
