I really need to get a new computer. What I have now I'm continually having issues with like freezing up, or constant hard drive activity which prevents me from doing certain things. I mainly use it to browse the web. I'm not a gamer. I mainly use Google Chrome and an app called MoneyPoint to keep track of my checking account transactions. A little while ago while I was on this site my browser froze. I managed to get task manager open, to close the browser. I use AVG as my security software. Why does it appear numerous times in task manager?

^ I'd recommend Linux Mint, it's far lighter than Win10 and more stable in overall (And trivial to install). Chrome has a Linux port (Maybe it's even in Linux Mint repo? Idk), for finance soft likely you'd likely need find an alternative. You may not really need to get new computer at all

1. Antivirus is often malware itself. Unless resource-hogging filesystem scanner sending data to someone's server (most work that way) can't be considered a malware
2. It simply uses multiple processes, lot of software does it. It's shouldn't be alarming in itself

Anti-virus programs tend to have a lot of different components for firewalls & other security stuff & thus multiple things show up in the task manager. I have an extremely old computer & I use Norton Secuirty(my girlfriend buys it & it can be installed on five devices) which has a bit of different components running that want to hog my comp's resources. My solution is to go into task manager & set all the Norton components to the lowest priority setting. All their default is normal except one's default is above normal. The Norton tamper protection setting prevents me from changing the task priority so I temporarily turn the setting off to change the task priority & then I turn tamper protection back on after. It's kind of a pain since everything resets when I restart or turn my comp off & on but I keep my comp on for easier access & for file-sharing programs so I'm only changing the task priority about 1ce or 2wice a week.

If you would like to save a lot of money on a computer there are some computers known as mini-pcs.

I'm looking into them to use at the office. I know someone people who swear by the GMKtec and Beelink lines. Imagine buying a computer for $150 or so. You would also need a monitor, but if you already have a monitor on your current computer, you might be able to find a mini-pc that will support that monitor.

I use a $170 mini PC I bought two years ago with a gamer keyboard and mouse.
I'm hard on keyboards but the gamer keyboard holds up better. 24 inch monitors have come down in price.

I never considered a mini-pc until talking to someone who uses them exclusively in his office.

The one problem with a mini-pc is that there really isn't much you can do to modify it other than to add a USB drive but then you need to consider the power usage.
