I’m referring to The Philosopher’s Stone, where Hagrid goes into the Forbidden Forest carrying a crossbow and a quiver of arrows, which seemed odd, and lo, a few pages later he loads the crossbow with an arrow, when eny fule noze that crossbows fire bolts, not arrows!

This got me wondering; a quiver is of course a kind of pouch, but is it also a collective noun for arrows? Does one exist?

Then, is there an equivalent for bolts? Presumably there exists something similar to carry bolts? As for a collective noun, a “murder” of bolts would be appropriate; they are not usually intended as a pat on the back.

Such errors abound, like in another book I’m reading, which refers to a “group” of dolphins! These authors need to go to school!

Even worse was an article on yahoo news about a pack of lions! Have these people no pride?

Any regular fool might know crossbows fire bolts and not arrows, but perhaps JK is exceptionally foolish? :chin:
