Software Engineer looking to dive into another community
Hello from Colorado!
I'm a software engineer with over a decade of experience in the field, particularly Web & mobile engineering, though these days I do content creation on YouTube (I'll put the channel link in my bio)
I was diagnosed by a university hospital at age 6 and then homeschooled for the most part, because my parents tried having me do a traditional education and then felt that it was not the right environment.
Since then, I've moved about 10 times before finally settling down right here in Colorado, where I've met some excellent people, several of whom are neurodivergent in some way.
During that time, I also received a diagnosis of ADHD-PI when I attended college.
In 2021, I received a B.S. in software engineering. I then embarked on a job search and even snagged some interviews, but unfortunately never received a job offer.
Outside of my daily work, I also regularly watch television and play video games on the Nintendo Switch. Lately, I've been watching old episodes of The Simpsons and doing open matches on Splatoon 3, where I am a Splattershot Pro main and my favorite sub-pastime is shooting at snipers .

Thanks.
Admittedly, it's been a while since I've done any old-school forums.
I used to be on VBForums, iFans, and PhysicsForums as a kid.
Used to have a big statistics & physics interest.
Lost them and got busy with school & college and stuff, but maybe I should channel one or both of them into software somehow so I have stuff to talk about on my channel.

Well...I retired from computers...in 2011.
I assume there will be years where you are miserable. I know there were years I was.
But I stuck to it and now retirement is wonderful.
My recommendation is go toward the long-term goal and persist through the rough spots getting there.

autisticoder, Welcome to Wrong Planet.
You mentioned that you have a high I.Q., have been home schooled and now are looking to learn more about yourself.
I will try and fill in some of the gaps. You parents were probably right to keep you out of the normal grade school experience. Around the age of 12 or 13, humans begin to change from boys into men. This can be very brutal to attend a normal school during this timeframe. For around 4 years I was physically and mentally abused by my fellow classmates during this period of my life. They came extremely close to physically killing me. So your parents were actually trying to protect you.
The human brain is much more complex then the present society actually knows. We are an extremely complex being. You mentioned you qualities. There are many tools to describe us. But for me one of the most enlightening was developed by Myers-Briggs. It analyzes human personality into 16 different types. I am an INTJ personality type. This is a very rare type and it describes my unique skills.
The 16 MBTI® Personality Types
You are looking for work. My answer to you is TRY HARDER. When I graduated from college and began to look for work, it was during a major recession. There were no jobs to be had. I applied for work in person 200 times and by submitting job applications by mail for another 300. But received no offers because there were none to be had. But I did not give up. I finally found a good job and worked for 40 years and retired.
Sometimes you might look for work in areas that you have unique skills in such as video gaming. Match your capabilities to your job search.
This video describes my personality type. I wonder if you may have the same personality type. But even if you do not, taking this type of on-line test may provide you some insight about yourself.

A very unique plan. As Dr. Paul Thompson wrote, "This is the very best paper on the virus I have ever seen."

Slight correction: actually, my IQ is average. My WAIS profile is "spiky."
Anyway, thanks for the advice. Unfortunately, I need remote work and that seems to be drying up in my field. There were a lot of opportunities during COVID but now companies are like "actually, we want y'all back in the office."
