All this is bringing back good memories for me

I've not really listened to music for about 30 years believe it or not

I don't know what I'm listening to but I'm loving it

It's jazz and / or double-time hip hop drumwork, and it allows a lot more styles of instrumentation and story telling, a lot of times taking on these really great film-scorey aspects because of the space and freedom that gives rather than a straight four thump. Not to say there isn't techno and trance I like, there's a guy named Djrum who does exotic tribal things with 4/4, this is more just 'rolling' the beats and taking people on mind's eye journeys to impossible places. Good examples:

The reason I yammer on for dozens of pages on my own about it - it's the closest thing I know of to real-life Harry Potter magic and while I get that that's not everyone's thing, it's so under-exposed culturally that it doesn't even surface in most places and that just seems arbitrary to me, almost like everyone's waiting for someone with status to tell them that it's okay to listen to it (I'm not that guy - I just think it's a horribly slept-on / undervalued genre so I'm trying to give it more surface).

There's another really nice thing just starting to happen where people who really loved this in the 90's and onward are hitting mid adulthood and there's an event coming up near me where it's a ton of top tier UK talent coming to town and it's going to be held, instead of 10PM - 6AM the way it used to be when I was 19 or 20, it's 12:00 PM to 8:00 PM on a Sunday at a restaurant and event center that does five star southern BBQ. I really hope they make that a stable thing, it'll be amazing.

Tried to find this since 2005, Spirit opened a set with it - what an epic opener.

The set I'm talking about:

I just got to take part in an absolutely amazing event, and it might actually be the first of it's kind in my area.

It's a Sunday and we had a daytime drum and bass rave at a locally renowned pulled-pork and BBQ place just outside downtown. It started at 12:00 PM, ended at 10:00 PM - or at least that's what was on schedule. They had one dj drop (Bladerunner), they had Dj SS, Mampi Swift, Euphonique, and Chrissy Chris from the UK as well as locals, semi-international (T.R.A.C.), regional (Mowgli), and it felt like a proper 'coming of age' thing where instead of the 10 PM to 6 AM or 8 AM that raves tend to be - these are all the former raver kids who loved the music, are in their 30's and 40's, and want to be able to enjoy it on a fully employed and with family schedule.

Anyway I've got a handful of clips from several of the DJ's:

Chrissy Chris:

Mowgli:

Dj SS:

Euphonique:

This is a big pop-oldie from the mid 90's.
