Anyway, the sound of raindrops (and thunderstorms) hitting my roof is somehow soothing to me (somehow I never heard this sound when rain hit the two-story house where I grew up in Cincinnati).

The sound of raindrops on a metal roof is fantastico.

Once, on a holiday in Croatia, I got caught in one of those apocalytic "Castle Dracula" type thunderstorms... the type you don't really get in the UK. I didn't dry out for days afterwards. It was interesting but not fun.
If I'm comfortably indoors and it's a break in hot, humid weather, I don't mind them.

I luv thunderstorms.
I have youtube recordings of them!
I'll sit on the balcony and watch the storm, but away from any metal.
The pets aren't happy tho.
Could you send your's over?
The thunderstorm, not the pets.

Me too! When it's 35° -45° here in the summer I put thunderstorm and heavy rain sounds on YouTube, close all the blinds and I am in heaven. Relaxes me so much.

To me, nothing compares.

I get overwhelmed by heat and sunlight, so having extreme weather conditions is one of the most thrilling and relaxing things ever. Example thunder storms: I adore the smell of petrichor, and how cold thunder storms are compared to the summer heat. The tension that builds up before storms often gives me headaches. It‘s all the sweeter when it starts to rain. The heavy patter of the rain is the one thing that always makes me fall asleep. Thunderstorms are just sensory heaven.

I remember sitting on the roof of a building in New York with giant plastic bags on our bodies, watching the Hudson River exploding from lightning strikes.

At our farm we get a great view of storms arriving from the west.
We had one lightning bolt hit 100m from the house... We ran out to find out firstborn alpaca - Diluain Honey, dead and steaming, with water flowing from every orifice.
( Don't be sad... We called her "Attila the honey" as she had a bit of 'tude, and she lived a full life as herd matriarch and had lots of cria)
We had another bolt turn a tree outside our gate into matchsticks.

I have mixed feelings about extreme weather. It is sensually awesome but if it does not end people's lives it does real harm to them. If a category 3 hurricane hits Long Island as has happened before, it would sound and look awesome. but once the storm is over no power, maybe water and food supplies for weeks at best it would be really boring, but I might join hundreds of thousands of other homeless, that is if I survive.

Severe Thunderstorms do those things also.

Growing up in tornado alley, I got to enjoy many severe thunderstorms. I loved every minute of them. It was music to my eyes and ears. Most were afraid to play out in the lightning, I was not. I miss those days since I moved away from there.

If I'm inside and dry, I enjoy them. My parents' house has a sunporch that is perfect for seeing and hearing them without getting wet.

But if I'm trying to sleep, then they're awful. They don't scare me, they just keep me awake.

I'm scared. I can deal with a thunderstorm but not with the severe howling winds and the sheer force of a severe storm or hurricane. And I live in a place that is prone to them. In May there was a terrible sudden storm and many large trees fell down within a block of my house. The wind was so forceful, plus driving rain, that I was hiding in the closet. And then there was no power for two days and I was very stressed sitting alone in the dark with no distractions.

A month ago there was a hurricane and luckily there was a bit of warning so I went to stay at my boyfriend's house and I wasn't scared when I was there. But I can't really imagine going through it alone.

I don't care for thunderstorms. I hide under my covers when there's a storm.

I love thunderstorms. I love high wind storms too. I think I just really like storms. I do not like the damage that they can do, that can worry me but the storms themselves, I really love.

I flat-out DESPISE thunderstorms!! !! !!

I hate the sound and the flashing lightening!! !

Whenever there is one I always hide out in the bathroom until it passes

Thunder also would keep me and David from doing anything romantic in the rain like kissing and ESPECIALLY $ex

Thunder and lightning are fine, it's just the wind that bothers me. Two years ago, our entire side fence blew over. The cats then liked to visit next door without having to jump the fence. Luckily we didn't have to pay for a new fence as we rent.

I've been scared twice in my life by huge claps of thunder directly overhead. Extremely loud!

We had a thunderstorm earlier today. Although these days a slight drizzle can turn into freaking Armageddon without warning, the only thing I was really worried about was the power going out. It didn't, but I lost my internet connection for a short time.

The climate crisis is going to kill at least half the human population soon, while war kills the other half. But my brain is numb, my emotion are dulled and I feel virtually indifferent to everything now.
