The ADHD meds kind of tripwired my ASD, so now I'm stimming constantly if I'm not engaged in physical activity.
I didn't have that before.
I'd trained myself to sit still and not have every limb bouncing about.
Sheesh.

Me yesterday: Going to the store.

- Couldn't find my purse, anywhere.
- Searched all over the house.
- Asked kids to help look.
- I knew I'd seen it somewhere.
- While looking I misplaced my phone.
- Then I was looking for both of them.
- While looking I misplaced the car keys.
- I searched for my purse about 30 mins.
- I found my phone but not the keys.

Then I remembered:

- Right before this started I'd put my purse in the sunporch.
- Like, five minutes before when I was brushing my teeth.
- I put my purse out in the sunporch with a bag I wanted to remember.
- I thought it would be smart to keep them together so I didn't forget the bag.
- Meanwhile I forgot about putting them there for over half an hour.

- Then I had to get my daughter to hold my purse / phone until I found the keys.

- Then I went out, and took the bag from the sunporch as planned.
- In the bag was a pack of old meat I wanted to dump in a public trash bin.
- I didn't want it in my personal garbage for two weeks.

- I went to the store and dumped the meat.

- I came home and discovered the rotting meat was still in my fridge.
- I had dumped the brand new one which was just delivered that day.

i have found the only way around all this mess is to have a place for everything, and everything always in its place. when i deviate from this i am compelled to curse up a blue streak.

I have always been a bit strange. I came here because I found out that there was a condition called AS at the time that fit me VERY well. It was put in the DSM around 1980, and I had been tested for a time about 10 years before that. My mother told me shortly before she died at one point teachers claimed I had ADHD.

Well, I was NOT into sports, knew the subject matter in the class better than the teachers, and was obsessed with electronics, so I guess they figured I was doing something, but not what they felt I should be, and so they figured ADHD! I am glad my mother didn't let them drug me. Apparently they wanted to give me ritalin.

Yeah, but no. I've been told that advice all my life but I've never managed to do it. When I do any task I don't finish it, so that means if I grab my purse to check my credit card number or whatever, I don't follow through to put it back where I got it. I don't even remember where it's supposed to go because that would involve executive function. I can't keep it near the door because they say that's not safe for burglaries, and I'm too lazy to carry it upstairs to my bedroom, so it just ends up in random places. Same with my phone because I always need the stupid thing for double verification codes when I use my laptop. I lose my phone dozens of times every day.

I barely use mine too, except for needing stupid verification codes 50,000 times a day on my laptop. I also use it as a flashlight since I live in the pitch dark and don't want to trip on cats.

Ritalin gets kind of a bad rap. It's not like people typically need to take tons of it and have to be on it for the rest of their lives. A couple pills here and there can make a difference.

That being said, there's a bunch of other things that can be done that don't involve medication, and you should have been told what was going on.

I had a similar experience with stimulants prescribed for ADHD. In some cases I had an explosive temper. In all cases the side effects came up faster than the good therapeutic effects. My side effects were weird, atypical.

How many tabs do y'all have open right now?

I'm counting nine, including three WP tabs leading to the same page and two YT tabs with the same song.

10.

Four are tumblr, where I run an RP blog. It's helpful to have multiple tabs as I bounce around between replies.

How do you all come down from a hyperactive bender (major rabbit hole) without feeling a sense of shame?
