An Austin Montego from a July 1984 episode of Brookside. Manufactured by British Leyland (soon to become Austin Rover Group) from the early mid-1980s, this was a decent looking car which shared a good deal of its mechanical features with the Austin Maestro, but unfortunately it had the usual British Leyland traits of poor build quality and indifferent reliability.
I remember a British car magazine featuring one of these cars in a long-term running report. These reports normally allocated most of the page to a description of the car's performance, how it felt to drive etc, with a small portion of the page at the bottom listing any repairs that needed doing during the test period. Unfortunately the test car developed so many faults in the first few months that the list of repairs quickly took over most of the page, and they ran out of space for the running report. They then had to abandon the feature. Sad comment on British Leyland/Austin Rover and a clear indication of why the company no longer existed by the end of the 1980s.
