I find it interesting that so many of us have memories from when we were younger than three years old. In my conversations with most people, I have found that very few of them remember anything before they turned three, and many do not remember anything before being four.

My own earliest memory is from when I was two. Our cat had been hit by a car and buried by my mother on the side of the house with a red brick as a grave marker. I remember standing in front of the brick and considering digging him up, not comprehending that he was dead.

i remember 3 things, from the early 1960s-

the first one was when i was a toddler just able to walk and clamber, and i climbed out from my crib next to my sleeping mother's bed, and jumped on the mattress, awaking her with a start- "WHUH!?" so she picked me up off the bed, put me back in the crib and moved the crib to the other side of the bedroom. i remember being very unhappy about that.

the 2nd one was when i was a toddler in the crib in my room, and my bedroom door was ajar sufficient that through the crack i was able to see a monochrome tv set playing a commercial for NAPA auto parts, i remember the trapezoidal symbol displayed on the screen.

my 3rd early memory was picking up one of my older sister's school textbooks, and being awed by the mystery of those weird squiggly ink symbols printed upon the pages- i remember looking at one particular page and seeing the word "just," and wondering what it was all about. it seemed so advanced to me at the time, like a caveman seeing a shiny Iphone and marveling at the mystery of it.

I always wondered whether my memories were unusually early... But what I heard agrees with what Kaybee said.

But here I'm somewhat in the normal area. For me the dating is relatively easy, since I moved 3 times in my life (always into another town), the earliest one being when I was 4.
So everything taking place in different places of that town must be from when I was 4 or younger.
Furthermore, I remember things that my parents can easily date.
My first memory is when I was somewhat around 2 years 5 months. My parents wanted to buy a new car, so my father went to a store to look at the options and took me with him. I can still see some faded images of that store and my father sitting in a car. I also know that I wanted a red one, and that my parents took the one that I liked best (which was red). For years I thought that I had had a decision in which car my parents bought...
The second one is when my father picked up my mother and my newborn brother from hospital, and again took me with him. I must have been 2 years 10 months at that time.

And then there's one that I only recently discovered to be a memory. I remember sitting in a car, with some baby in a baby basket next to me. I didn't know who that baby was.
Then, a few months ago, I asked my mother whether my brother's baby basket was dark blue with a pattern of white dots...

There are some memories, however, that also must have happened before I moved and that I cannot date.

I've talked to quite a few people as well and everyone I've talked to didn't remember anything before about 5 years old. They were already in kindergarten! I feel like perhaps they just haven't remembered hard enough or something, though.

I'm bad at remembering things in chronological order. I do have a lot of early memories, though. I -think- my earliest one was when I was one year or younger. I know I was sitting in a swinging plastic chair. I've seen it in pictures since, and the first time I saw a picture, I recognised it and pointed it out to my mom. It was the kind you wind a handle up and then it swings slowly on its own. I was sitting in the chair with a stuffed pink snake hanging from above me, and I was talking to my feet. I used to talk to my feet a lot. :\ lmao
I hadn't learned English, yet. I just spoke in made-up baby words to hear the sound of my own voice. 8)

I also remember my sister's first birthday, which means I was two years and three months old. She had a cake on the tray of her high chair, and I remember straining to see it, but all I could see was the underside of the high chair tray, and my head was at everyone's shin level.

I do no think I have such early memories.

I know that when I was a kid I would always remember a day when I was in the room I shared with my brother (so I must have been very young because we have changed rooms many times and I know that this one because the place where we put the computer later) and we were playing together with coloured objects.
We were probably over 1 year old but I could not say how old we were. I actually had somewhat forgotten that before reading this thread and thinking about how I could remember things like that when I was a child and not know. So I had to remember that I had a better memory when I was a child to find this one again.

Apart from that, I only have memories of when I was older, around 3 years old to 4 years old. I know that one day I was in the stairs at my grand mother's house, reading a book about frogs. I was 4. And when I was a little younger, at nursery school, they were taking photos of each pupil. I think I was about 3. But I may have been older, I do not know.

There is also a nightmare I had during most of my childhood that I can remember clearly. I do not have much memories of nursery schools strangely enough, apart from games, a song or two and a doctor (and food). But from what my parents told me, I was very inattentive and moved a lot during the classes, I know that when I was in primary school I had a tendency to be absent-minded, so I guess it was worse then and I have no real memories because I was not really "there" in my mind.

We had to answer to this question during my English course lately and most people had very early memories like yours.

I think I can remember being in the pram out shopping with my mother and her friend. Her friend had a child too and he was crying loudly and I was very quiet. I am not sure if its a real memory though because to be in the pram I must have been very young.

I definately remember being four years old. I loved Mud Tiger Feet and The Wombles "Remember you're a Womble" songs and also my little plastic record player.

Someone was carrying me and I could see a row of baby cribs, like in a hospital - strange as it seems, I think this memory dates back to the very first days of my life. I read young toddlers can sometimes dream about their delivery and that they can remember those dreams later on in life so even if it wasn't an actual memory from the hospital I was born in, it can be a memory of a dream on it.

My first clear memory is of ballet class. I actually have two memories of it (actually, three, but one is definitely later than the other two). One was when we were stretching, and the teacher told us we had to make a "fairy bridge" in order to get us to stretch. We sat in a circle to do that.

The other memory is of the same class (but possibly a different day) when the teacher was annoying at us for some reason. She made us stand in the hallway instead of being able to sit down. There was something about pizza too, but I really can't remember how that connected; either we were getting pizza there or I wanted to have pizza for dinner. Probably the latter, really.

In both cases, I was four years old.

my earliest memories would have to be when I was around 2 or 3 years old. Probably closer to two, since I remember being put into a crib to sleep. But i was old enough to walk.

I was probably about two years old, maybe a little younger. I used to bite my brother, and my parents were trying to stop that behavior. One thing they tried was to put some pepper in my mouth. I remember sitting in a chair in the corner of the kitchen, crying, and my mom reached up into the cabinet and got the pepper and put some in my mouth. After that, I have very few memories until I was about 4.

Probably at the age of 2. Getting locked up in a small padded room for no reason. Very stressful, to say the least.

Of course, the kindergarten staff's explaination was that I was too aggressive to be with the "normal children", so they put me in the "cushion room" to "calm down".

:?

I remember waking up one morning and realising that I didn't remember any of the events of the previous day.
I was almost 4.
