EVERYHING METAL!! !

Enjoy.
Definitely sounds better than the crap on their last few albums although there still is definitely some nu-metal/Slipknot influence (guitars still downtuned to D, simple angry lyrics etc etc.). But as I said still better than GHUA at least IMO. Might buy it but I don't know yet.

The best Slayer albums were "Divine Intervention" and before. Newer stuff isn't as good, though I liked the video for "Bloodline," because it's one of the sickest videos I have ever seen.

Cold Meat Industry is the best distro for neo-folk and experimental music. Red Stream is good. Metropolis Records has some, but I have ordered from them directly. United Dairies, maybe. Relapse Records used to have a large selection, but have since backed off from this type of music in more ways than one, and most of the bands I have come across have been through Relapse, since that is where most of my stuff tends to be ordered from.
I don't necessarily own a lot of neo-folk, per se, but rather have downloaded a few tunes and listened to radio shows promoting it. It's like, I don't own a lot of industrial music, though I own some. I own a lot of underground metal and punk.
Have you ever heard of Gerogerigegege? Like, the most radical band from Japan? Not neo-folk, but definitely noisy industrial.

Recently been listening to loads grind, doom, death & pirate-metal.
imo a lot of so-called death & melo-death is just downtuned thrash (or trad!) with blast-beats & growled vocals. Thats why Carcass 'heartwork' always stands out for me - most of its structure etc is undeniably DM but still manages to be vaguely melodic and the songwriting is on top form.
Played Death - 'Leprosy' again yesterday - songs 4/5/6 Left to die/Pull the plug/Open casket 10mins of crushing back to back classics.

Ah yeah, I order quite a bit from Tesco who stock stuff released on Cold Meat Industry. Redstream's good too, although mostly only for metal...
I've heard of Gerogerigegege but have yet to actually hear anything from them. I've heard a lot of their stuff is just defecation / them f*****g around etc? Anyways not surprising they're from Japan, one f****d up country in some areas/respects.
Boris are pretty great too I reckon...
@psych: I know what you mean about dm evolving out of thrash riffs/structures. Also there's nothing worse than that "deathcore" / "melo-deathcore" / "thrashcore" stuff that's so big these days, just watered down, recycled thrash riffs made more accessible for the -core kids that worship Headbanger's Ball. Almost makes me miss the days when Limp Bizkit ruled the world actually.. almost.
Carcass "Heartwork" is one of the only "melodic-death metal" albums that I can actually stand actually as I'm not big on most bands classified as melodic-dm for some reason (In Flames, Dark Tranquility, Soilwork etc.) but yeah "Heartwork's" incredible for sure.
I like "Leprosy" too, but it may be my least favorite of all the Death releases (which still means its great of course, hehe).
I love metal. Some of my favorites are: Iced Earth, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Dark Tranquility, Virgin Steele, Saviour Machine, Children of Bodom, Paradise Lost, Slough Feg, Dream Theate, Overkill, Skyclad, Blind Guardian, My Dying Bride, Misanthrope, Moonsorrow, Nevermore, In Flames, Symphony X, Sentenced, Cradle of Filth, Testament, Audioslave, Evergrey, Type O Negative, Grave Digger, and Cruachan. I'm listening to Iron Maiden at this very moment, actually.
Anyone like Disturbed?

Nah, not really my thing. They just seem to be a very generic mallcore band in my eyes who have all those elements I don't care for: simple/angsty lyrics aimed at 13 year olds a lot of the time (although I'm aware that lots of people that don't fit that age like them too of course), radio-friendly catchy song structures and choruses that annoy me when they get stuck in my head, repetitive 'start-stop' Korn-like riffs, no solos or anything very often to break these structures etc. From what I heard off of "10000 Fists" I liked more than the debut album though but still give me the first 5 Kreator releases any day.
Well, that's sort of hard to say. Their name is derived from the supposed sounds of some pretty nasty stuff. Where the minds of these folks conjured up that sort of idea is way beyond me. Gerogerigegege is mostly one man, anyways ... and they have put forth a lot of releases, many of which were different from one another, including a few that were rock based and others that were simply noise.

I haven't seen any mention of Protest the Hero! They're getting a lot of play on XM's Liquid Metal #42. They're kind of a mix of death metal and math core. There's either a tempo or time sig change every 20 seconds. I've been a long time Rush and Dream Theater fan, and just recently getting into more hard core metal, mostly new death metal. Lots of mention of Opeth...very cool. I only have their Damnation CD but enjoy the their airplay on XM. I mentioned in another thread, I just purchsed Necrophagist and Dragonforce, both very cool. I like many other artist they play on XMLM like Arch Enemy, Circle of Filth, Shadows Fall, oh and Mudvayne

I'll take it you mean Cradle of Filth?? There's some radio stations around here that play quite a bit of more mainstream metal but generally speaking I'm not too big on melo-death and -core stuff which seems to be played a lot of the time (or often the 2 put together with recycled thrash riffs). "Damnation" is definitely a pretty good album, though my favorite by Opeth will always be their first 2 as while the production is not quite as crisp a very autumn/nature-like atmosphere was created on those 2 in particular.
Im a very happy bunny having just d/led the entire Running Wild discography
A lot of it sounds samey on a 1st listen, but i can heartily recommend 'Death & Glory' lp, save for (maybe) a couple of tracks.
For those of you unaware of Running Wild, they were one of the 1st speed-metal bands, after a few years they adopted a 'pirate' theme and sound.
Woo, about time some one made this thread my favorite bands at the moment are as below:
3 Inches of Blood
8 Foot Sativa
Burzum (Norway rules!!)
Children Of Bodom
Cradle Of Filth
DragonForce (i know)
Helloween
Iron Maiden
Opeth
Stratovarius
Slayer
Tool
I also have a intrest in the black metal scene that occurred in the 90's thanks to my sister buying a book called Lords of Chaos.

Some really great bands there Laura. Burzum, old-school Slayer, Opeth and of course the almighty Maiden are all awesome!!
Are you aware that Varg was just recently denied parole at a court hearing?? Obviously I do not support murder or anything but it seems that a much bigger deal has been made about Varg than either Faust (Emperor, Aborym etc.) or Jon (Dissection). I just recently got Hvis Lyset Tar Oss on LP, probably the one single album that really set the tone for ambient-laced 'atmospheric' bm IMO. I was really looking forward to the new Burzum album (set to be made once he's out of prison) but there's too much good stuff around right now for it to be much of a loss really. Another 6 or 7 years will do the guy good anyways (more for his stupidity of having opinions that change rapidly and opening his mouth too much than anything else).
And Varg may be an idiot but due to all the 'myspace warriors' who think he's some sort of God or something it has become just as cool to hate him as it has to 'worship' him in the "bm scene".
Also, be careful about Lords of Chaos, it may be a pretty neat book and definitely has lots of nice pictures and stuff but much of the information is just from second-hand sources, is inaccurate in some way etc.
