3,000! That's awesome!
I'm more than a little jealous, myself. I can also see how most people would consider a collection like that to be several running steps along the path to avarice, but what do they know.

I have a few R2Rs, (along with an A77) also from the '60s, mostly jazz and R&B.

Convenience is what lead me to rip 2,000+ CDs to my computer over the last year and a half. I'm just trying to keep as many of my options open as possible. I want to get a Squeezebox someday soon, to feed music anywhere on my property.

I've recently started colectiong records (born in 84- they were a bit before my time). I have lots of 45s and 33s i got from my parents and grandparents and i've been buying lots of 78s. I love the old 78's! I have my dad's old turn table for 33/45's, a technics quartz direct drive automatic turntable system, plus an old califone, a portable rainbow kids player, and a 1917 Victor Victrola. I love that thing! I brought it back to college with me one weekend and my roommates thought it was quite odd.

I've had 45 Speed Records and Cassette Tapes ever since I was a little kid, I did wind up with my 1st CD at age 11 so I have owned CDs most of my life as well.

When I was 13 my Sister gave all her Vinyl albums to me because she rarely listened to hers.

When I was 15 well my Vinyl collection outranked my Parents and eventually my Parents gave all their Albums to me because I was only one in the entire house listening to the Vinyl Albums.

My CDs do outnumber my Vinyl Albums and Cassette Tapes combined (although I think my Albums outnumber my Cassette Tapes).

I tell ya what Vinyl does look more attractive than CDs and it actually does sound better than CDs as well when it happens to be in Mint Condition.

Of course CDs are more easier to carry around so most of the time I go for getting CDs but it is nice to get old Vinyl Albums every now and then in Antique Sales.

Ya know what though being im a Musician myself I do have my Music on CDs, Cassettes, Videotapes and DVDs but not on Vinyl, it would be cool to have it on Vinyl though.

Yep, I've got a turntable...I think watching records spin is kind of relaxing, like a fishtank but less exciting
Getting new records is a little hard though...most music stores don't seem to have them anymore. :(

You should check out thrift stores such as "Goodwill" -- they oughta have some!!

I have a little over 100 records in my collection and have a Sony Full-Automatic turntable. My collection includes mostly LPs, although I do have a few 45's and 12" dance mixes... (I'm not sure if they even make the 78 RPM vinyls anymore or turntables that are able to play them.)

IMHO, I HATE cassettes & 8-tracks because they're flimsy, wear out, you have to RW & FF to choose which song you want to listen to, and exhibit an annoying "hissing" sound in the background of the music.

I collect 78's. they don't make them any more but they are easy to find and often cheap. You can get turntables that play all 3 speeds, but the old 78's really sound better on wind up victrolas and gramophones. I have a Victola from 1917 which is just awesome. It's about 4 feet tall, sits on the floor and is made of wood. you wind up the crank, and open the little doors to "adjust" the volume. Some rare 78's in really good condition are quite valuable, but i collect cheap novelty records. often record stores will just give them away for free because no one ever buys them. even though they're cheap, i'm careful not to buy too many because they're extremely heavy and thick, and most don't have the original jackets so its hard to sift through your collection to find the ones you want. What is cool, is my 3 speed turntable from the 50's is able to hook up to my computer with this little box thing, so i can get original recordings of 1910's music in my ipod shuffle!

I broke my turntable years ago, haven't gotten a new one, or bought any new records. I just download everything now anyways.

Does vinyl really sound better than digital formats? I've heard people say this but I can't see how it can be true.

vinyl is analog, digital is digital, analog has ALL the data, digital has most of the data in a "close enough" form

if you took a needle and ran it along a vinyl record's surface it would play the music albeit quietly

if you pulled a needle along a CD's surface it would scratch the CD, an LP is the physical storage of sound, it is a much higher resolution than digital, the bitrate is MUCH higher so to say

Lol, trust me, turn tables and vinyls will be relevant for a long time. If anything if its not people at home buying them it's all the club dj's buying Technics SL12000 Mk III's and whatever else may be down the way. Most dj's also don't want to go purely to cds because it completely takes the art out of it and it's just not respected as such when a guy or girl gets up on a laptop or 2 cd players unless it's just a bar or something.

You bet your girlfriend's broken 8-track player...it's true!!

I wish I had the money to get into vinyl right now. You can pick up used records for a song these days. If I had the money I would get Pro-Ject Debut III Turntable and a Bellari Tube Preamp. They are great pieces of gear and relatively inexpensive. For now I do all my listening from my computer (mostly ripped CDs encoded with .flac).
