Have you tried Irfanview? It's a little program that can do wonders, with it you can crop, resize, use it as a gallery viewer, even has some basic effects, try it, it has always been very useful to me, and everyone I know loves it! And most of all, it's freeware

to resize: CTRL+R
to crop: select and area and press CTRL+Y
