I think one of my all time favourites is the first solo in Metallica's master of puppets.

It is really beautiful, and a real contrast to the harsh sound of the rest of the song, which I also really enjoy, it is one song I really enjoyed learning to play on the guitar. All that downpicking is definitely a workout!

"Tender Surrender" by Steve Vai. Very impressive, indeed. Wish I could play it!

Brighton Rock - Queen Brian May
Black Napkins - Frank Zappa (almost any version, but especially Berlin 1976)
Cortez The Killer - Neil Young
Southern Man - Neil Young (especially the beginning part where the guitar just screams)
Clap - Yes Steve Howe
Mood For A Day - Yes Steve Howe
Whippin' Post (live at the Fillmore East 1971) - The Allman Brothers Band Duane Allman
Zoot Allures - Frank Zappa (especially the Osaka 1976 full-length version you can't buy officially)

I will admit I can have a hard time keeping track of things like that...I mean my favorite guitar solos have always been at live concerts, since a lot of times they'll actually go all out on it and add to it, I find it harder to pick out when listening to song recordings. There are certainly riffs(I think) that I like a lot, and parts done with other instruments that I really like...such as the intro for The Final Countdown by Europe.

That reminds me I had a favorite synth riffs thread, and I think I posted the Final Countdown one there.

Yes. I especially love the soft outtro bit; I'll put some multitap delay on my guitar, clean up the tone, and I could probably just practice that part for an hour without getting tired of it.

My favorite guitar solo is from Pink Floyd - Dogs. I don't know if I could choose just one specific solo from that song, though, the whole thing is all so great.

The outro bit is indeed the best.

I don't really care for guitar solos. Give me more riffs and less w*king.
