How do you meet same sex partners?
The only ways I know are of if you don't like bars (something I don't blame anyone for) are online dating or hearing "through the grapevine" who's into who in LGBT-friendly environments. It really is a shame, and I wish it were easier to tell at the very least who's not going to react with disgust.
I was at a Chipotle a few weeks ago, and because the girl who made my burrito couldn't hear me she had to ask me to speak up. I did and made a joke, and she had one of those really quirky laughs that starts, stops a little, and starts again. I don't really know how to describe it, but it cheered me up.
I've thought about her a couple times since. She really was just a cute person.
Comic conventions. Seriously.
I used to go to the San Diego Comic-Con quite frequently up until it started becoming impossible to get tickets, and during my last few I'd hit up the LGBT-oriented panels, which typically culminated with a social mixer on Saturday evening. I only went to two, but both times I had cute nerdy guys chatting me up. I never did anything about it since I was way too nervous, but it was a nice feeling nevertheless.
I mean, those are my kind of people. I'm an absolute nerd myself; I'm not into clubbing or bars or anything like that so I don't see much point in trying to meet people through those sorts of things. There is an LGBT-oriented convention called BentCon based out of Burbank which I've been wanting to attend, both out of my interest in LGBT media and the possibility of meeting someone, but I've been reluctant out of anxiety.
