I'm kinda intrigued by this. It sounds pretty well thought out. My question is "does Sean have a love interest?"

It can't be a testosterone-fueled action movie without one. Her name's Lisa, and she's inspired by Alyssa Milano.
Image
She's the daughter of the local sheriff, Ben Phillips, who initially isn't too keen on the idea of her having a crush on a boy who is practically a god.

Nice. Very classy choice for inspiration. Speaking of inspiration, did you know that she was one of the inspirations behind the design of Ariel from The Little Mermaid? Ariel was like my first crush when I was a kid so I'm really interested in seeing what's done with Lisa here. Also, I couldn't help but get a feeling of familiarity with Lisa and her dad, Ben. It reminds me of Gwen Stacy and her dad, Captain George Stacy, from the Spider-Man storyline. Was that intentional? Maybe a hint of foreshadowing?

Thanks. I didn't know she inspired Ariel's looks. I learn something new everyday! :) I used to be a huge Marvel Comics fan, but in recent years, I've been gravitating more towards DC. If there was a similarity between the Phillips and the Stacy's, it wasn't really intentional.

Going off on a tangent here, but what action movie throwback would be complete without an elite henchman to back up the main villain? First, we have the Cygar, modeled after controversial comedian/actor Andrew Dice Clay.
Image
Cygar is one of Zauzer's top enforcers in the Legion organization, having earned the nickname "The Ghoul" both for his goon-like appearance and for being personally responsible for roughly three hundred contract killings in the past several years. Despite his massive brawn and attitude, he's surprisingly intelligent, commanding some of Zauzer's mooks. He doesn't always see eye to eye with his boss, though. Whereas Zauzer wants to basically turn Alphaboy over to the Dark Side, Cygar has his own agenda: he wants to kill Sean in retaliation for unintentionally killing his son during an action scene early on in the story.

You're welcome. :) Interesting choice for the #2 guy. I don't know too much about Andrew Dice Clay but did he ever play a villain during his acting career? He looks like he'd be intimidating.

I believe he did play a villain at least once in a direct-to-video/television movie. His career has been rocky, at best. The sheer vulgarity of his standup act, combined with the failure of his first starring role, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane, gave him a bad reputation in Hollywood. In Roger Ebert's review of the film, he noted that Dice would make a better villain or heavy than a hero, and that was pretty much the genesis of Cygar in a nutshell.

And believe me, I have every intention of making Cygar one badass enforcer. I look forward to the fight scene between him and Sean/Alphaboy.

Here's some more characters.

Image
Dr. Felix Frankenheimer, inspired by character actor Billy Drago, is a former Prometheus Corporation* scientist. He left the company in pursuit of fortune and an opportunity to show off his intelligence. Having joined the nefarious organization Legion, he's developed a powerful biochemical weapon capable of transforming people into monsters. Like Zauzer and Cygar, he has his own agenda involving our hero...

Image
Michael Jamal-Warner provides the template for Sean's best friend, Nathaniel Colby. He's recently moved back to into the neighborhood after spending a few years in Chicago. He's hot-headed, aggressive, politically incorrect and somewhat high-strung, but ultimately a good kid.

Image
If Alphaboy is the adventurous supercop, then high school principal Anne Macek, patterned after Jane Kaczmarek, is the perpetually put-upon chief. She's initially somewhat antagonistic towards Sean, fearing his superhero antics could ruin her school's reputation.

Yay! Theo Huxtable is in the story. Btw it's actually Malcolm Jamal-Warner.

As a side note, an adult Warner recently appeared in the latest season of American Horror Story: Freak Show.

Really? Theo Huxtable from The Cosby Show and the voice of the producer from The Magic School Bus was on American Horror Story? Hmm. Well nice to know he still has business.

I'm thinking of winging this one, rather than using a thorough outline. I find it more fun to figure out how points A, B, and C logically connect as I go along. I also recently watched Beverly Hills Cop to get in the right mood.

I understand that thorough outlines aren't necessarily for everyone. I typically come up with the A and C well before I come up with the B.

I already have an idea of my opening, and I know that the big action climax is going to take place in a baseball stadium during an MLB playoff with thousands of people in attendance. I kid you not!

To quote Keanu Reeves, "Whoa." (which works out nicely since Sean's dad is modeled after him.) I don't know how a climax could get more interesting than that.

I have never, ever used an outline for anything I've ever written.

I'm just about done with the first chapter of this bad boy. It's already looking like it'll be more fun than Redesigning Eva. Speaking of which, I'm hoping to work on the second draft sometime this year.

Well, I haven't made much progress since I last posted in this thread. I'm only on the second chapter. Still, it's better than nothing.

I've tweaked the story a bit. It turns out that Nate Colby, Sean's friend, gets killed early on in the story. You see, Nate was hooked on Zauzer's designer drug Z, and stumbled upon his evil plan for the Saturday baseball game. He's eliminated by a hit squad, but not before telling Sean a bit about the conspiracy.

I have great news. In January, I wrote a thirty page treatment of Alphaboy, which more or less doubles as a first draft in that I got the story out of my head in some form. I'm over three thousand words into a full-blown draft, and I'm also working on short stories and a new draft of Redesigning Eva. Things are looking up!
