I speak only English. They tried to teach me Latin and French at school but I guess that my brain simply isn't wired for languages. I tried, on my own account, to learn Irish (Gaelic)at evening classes but failed miserably. I like to read Russian Cyrillic but I have no interest in learning to speak the language.

I speak English natively, Spanish well enough to teach it at college level, a little French & Portuguese (I started studying them as a requirement for my grad program). I faked Italian when I went to Italy.

I think I like studying languages because when they teach pragmatics, I get rules of how to ask/answer questions & carry on a conversation.

Does anyone else like this aspect of learning languages? It's like getting a code of how to handle basic daily conversations and an analysis of how interactions happen differently in English and the language I'm learning.

Hello. I only speak fluent English. I did French throughout school because I'm Canadian (Ontario). I am trying to learn German though. Not even close to fluent.

English. I'm losing my French due to lack of practice. I used to be able to debate in French cuz all we did in grade 11 French class was debate, debate and debate-- and debate was all I knew how to do in French for a while... but forget having a normal conversation!

My native language is English, but I know how to speak some German. However, learning the conjugation and things like that feels complicated to me because I am terrible in English in school. (Sounds ironic, right?)

I don't speak any languages other than English. I read, rather fluently, French, German and Spanish and can read Latin and Greek with occasional use of a dictionary.

Only fluent in English.

Et je suis perdu avec la langue Française! Took it for years in school, but that was long before the immersion way came to be. Also took Spanish & Latin, but they are long gone now. Studied German when I was posted over there, but got nowhere with it.

Just English, but I spoke mostly German until I was in first grade and learned Spanish in high school.
