Ofra Haza was the biggest thing in Israel ofcourse for a long time (even has a following in neighboring Arab countries) until died young of aids in her early thirties.

She had Europe wide hits (a few). And one of those was sampled by the British house music outfit M-a-r-r-s in their club hit "Pump Up the Jam".
