I mostly think in terms of events or conversations rather than appearances or settings. Like I imagine the characters having conversations or what their past might have been.

I've tried writing. Now, I can come up with stories like you wouldn't believe. I can plot and plan out the happenings. But the writing is bad. It's been called clinical, cold, lacking in emotional context, descriptive. This is over a 30 year period so it's not like I tried just a little. My individual creative work has always been called nice 'technically' but never emotive or captivating.

I spend most of my time in my mind, making up characters and scenarios. I don't seem to interact with the real world as frequently as NTs do. Even when I'm doing things with friends, I'm still mostly off in my own world.

I suspect more severe, nonverbal autistics are more "in their own world" because they may not have any way to communicate with the real world.

Yes, most of the time I wish I could remain there. But nothing gets done... So I have to force myself out of it and be an adult. :(

This is what lead me into writing. Not that I'm that great, but I enjoy my stories... I take online classes to try to learn those things I can't do.

I have also tried writing. My problem lies in the creating a reason to write. If I am given a topic of idea, I can elaborate. But I have a hard time thinking up those ideas on my own. It's also why I never draw, doodle, etc. I don't know where to start on a project like that.

Then what inspires or moves you? Or what do you do when you are inspired or moved to create? I know people who do things like drawing and knitting, which are things I'm not great at. Sometimes, I'd like to learn to draw and take up photography...

With the online classes I take, I know that there are some that can help with creativity.

Yes I am. It is what relaxes me and helps me escape from this horrible world for a short time.

The things that inspire or attract my attention are generally too broad to discuss in one post, or I don't feel equipped to comment publically on the subject.
Specifically, I am an avid reader, I am active as an educator in the local babywearing group, and I have been reading mostly information regarding Asperger's and Autism for a while.
I don't have the degree nor diagnosis to publically discuss books nor ASD, respectively. Also, blogs regarding babywearing are plentiful, and better done than I see myself doing.

I'm not a creative person in that way. I don't get enjoyment from creating things. But I can be lost in a book for days. When I read it is a very visual thing. I think my early childhood habit of daydreaming has been encompassed by my reading. I daydream around the story lines, which would explain why I read the genres that I do.

Yes, I am. Having a good imagination is important for me. Finding a safe place in my head to process all the information is necessary. I enjoy losing myself in thought.

My favorite little world has to be coral gardens. I've had some of my best moments hanging out at 10 feet and watching that little world go bye. Reliving them makes me very happy. Many stories, for another time.

I love imagining things and daydreaming! I'm a writer, so I often plan out scenes in my head before writing them.

How do you capture the voices of the characters?

I can give the characters motivation and everything but a real conversation. I can tell the story, but I just can't bring it to life with dialogue.

I'm actually trying not to focus too much on dialogue, and let the character express who they are by their actions, not by what they say. Tolkien had a similar problem, as he seemed to like describing things instead.

Kudos to you!! I am jealous of the way you can approach this. In the best way possible....LOL

Thank you! To be honest, if I could find a way to write the whole book with little to no dialogue, that would be good.

By the way, I like your avatar! I think it's cute. :)

OK....

1) It can be done. For an excellent example of this find the book "GON" by Masashi Tanaka. Once you see it, you will know what I mean. Really worth the trouble to find.
2) Pig is Da Man(errrr....pig....)! ! I love his innocence.
