Why do modern vocalists force their voices so much?

Always disliked the fact the vocals take priority over the instrumentals.

I prefer vocals to be a part of the overall sound, a piece of the puzzle, not the main course with a side-dish serving of background music.

Most music listeners, of pop music at least, in my experiences don't seem to value nor really take any sort of notice or thought into the background sounds.

Many don't even acknowledge the fact most pop singers only sing, and had no part in the making of the instrumentals.

Pop producers are rarely appreciated for their efforts.

A very good example is the song

Ariana Grande - Break Free ft. Zedd

The comment section of the song's youtube video has Zedd's fans complaining that Zedd did most of the work and it should be the other way round (Zedd ft. Ariana Grande).

While Ariana Grande's fans, the comments are usually stuff along the lines of 'Who's Zedd?' or only saying positive things about Ariana.
