I tend to think American efforts at environmentalism get caught up in branding & gimmicky excess. Greening consumerism up is more profitable when it's exclusive. I was just discussing this with my mom earlier & had to exasperatedly tell her none of this is going to get fixed if those of us tasked with the fixing worry about our own bottom line in the process. It's no good for my wallet but I'm far more comfortable working to subvert this state of affairs than I am selling chunks of my hacker M.O. to companies that hardly pay anyway.
On a related note SCREW E WASTE! All those dolts throwing away perfectly good gizmos need to send those to subsistence farmers so they can get their weather reports.
