I'd also add for the OP, I had a year or two, I think 7th or 8th grade where I was exploring a lot of Anthrax's stuff. I did like Persistence of Time, Among The Living, etc..

You know, I'd swear we had a lot more maybe ten or fifteen years ago and the really neat ones started dropping off. Not sure why.

Pretty much everything except current Top 40 music! Unfortunately the kinds of women I'm attracted to almost exclusively listen to the latter :P

80s songs, pop rock, new wave
60-70s songs sometimes too. Rock
Ragtime, both classic and sometimes contemporary.
Funk/disco/jazz-funk fusion but especially the newer not the original early 70s. Think Level 42. Jamiroquai, Casiopea, Shakatak etc, like them a lot
Latin Jazz influence, like salsa etc.
rarely, quiet songs/ballads.
because I like stuff that has groove.

As of recently I've been listening to many songs from the 20s-40s in The Great American Songbook, so lots of old school jazzy music by Richard Rogers, Cole Porter, George Gershwin etc.

Normally I like:
-Funk
-House
-Hip hop
-Soul
-Pop
-RnB
-Classical

Anything really! Trying to find an appreciation for everything to be honest.

Lately, I've really been into classical and jazz. I'm preferring instrumental intricacy to anything with lyrics/voice. Ravel is a big favorite right now in classical. I started a jazz thread not long ago and listed favorites there as well.

When I was in my 20s, I was big into electronic music. In my teens, it was progressive rock.

The only genres I really cannot get much into at all are country and punk.

I've developed a Ravel obsession recently. I've been listening to his Piano Concerto two or three times a day. Somehow it reminds me of Bartok's first two concertos, especially the first movement. It has a lovely, oppressive, industrial sort of sound.

I mean, I literally listen to music from every single genre. Only one I actively dislike is modern country, but that's more out of principle than thinking it's bad really. Variety is what makes music exciting.

Free jazz? Grindcore? Vaporwave? lowercase?

I've never once heard someone who claims to listen to everything and actually is even aware of just how many musical genres exist. Certainly this would include me when I was naive enough to claim it, and I'm sure I can think of several times more styles/sounds/genres now than I could when I did claim that, and I'm convinced I'm still only aware of the tip of the iceberg that is music.

I am aware of most of those genres actually, and have listened to a bit from them. But admittedly I did mean like the basic fundamental genres that those sib-genres fall under. I do have a lot of free time though, and I am very open-minded. I have a tendency to at least give songs a listen when someone presents them to me. While yes some of the gebres do inevitably get less attention at any given time because of sheer volume, my taste is very broad and shifts a bit from time to time. I have even taken up listening to k-pop recently. Presumably with enough time I'll make it even to some of those niche sub-genres I haven't quite heard of yet. Also I was very excited when I learned that there is at least one band out there that can be classified as swing metal. I'm a sucker for bands that blend multiple genres together, especially when they're combinations you wouldn't quite expect.
