Scots is an offshoot of Germanic Anglosaxon English, and has nothing to do with the Celtic Gaelic of the original inhabitants of Scotland,the later of which is still spoken in the Highlands, and in the islands of Scotland. Scots is the language of the big cities and of the lowlands of Scotland.
