I don't really want to fit in with any specific group.

I have a few small tattoos that I got a couple of decades ago for personal reasons. That was probably around the time they started getting more mainstream. Not really a fan of them for aesthetic reasons, but that's just me.

have the same opinion as kraftie, but i must add that given the cost and long term benefits.
I don't think that tattoos are a good thing if you are trying to fit in...I like to think that if someone gets a tattoo it might be a unique expression of art for that individual oerson :D

I'm meh about them, myself. I do like the craft required for the artwork, the choice of art, location, and meanings for the tattooed. Just never could decided if I wanted one, what would it be, and where would I want it.

The question is do some aspies get tattoos to appear or fit in with NT's?

You've asked two different questions.

1. Do aspies get tattoos?

Some of us do. I have one I got started 4 years ago, and I'm going to get it finished & get a lot more - and probably more of them faster than I thought. I saw my tattoo artist's girlfriend just before Christmas and she told me the shop they work at is changing hands again and the new owners want to raise prises up to $250/hr from $150 and they're not down with that because they like being accessible to the locals vs. pricing themselves up at the most premium range in the area. That and Covid has changed the whole industry - shops shut down due to health orders so artists have been working from home illegally all over the place - and charging lower rates due to lower overhead. So, their plan is for the two of them to work from home again like the old days, charge less but earn more - because they pay 50% to the shop. Sooo, they could charge half as much and earn the same, or charge 2/3rd as much and still earn more than they did etc, which means when I go get work done I can afford to get more of it done faster as my money will go further. 8)

The question is do some aspies get tattoos to appear or fit in with NT's?

Maybe some do ? Depends on what their local social scene is like and if they feel the need to get tattooed to appear to fit in with people that they want to appear to fit in with, I guess.

This is the answer +1

Some do, but I have no plans to get any myself.

As with other forms of art, I think some are masterpieces, while others are gaudy.

Are any of the reasons genuinely unhealthy?

I would love to get tattoos but due to Covid it doesn’t seem worth it. I wanted them to attract cool guys with common interests but there are other ways to do that.

Do not think , i would ever get a tatto to please others .. Something that permanent would be for myself, people may come and go throughout your life, but you are the only one , who has to live with themselves. So if you get one , get a special one for yourself , i think .

With the exception of gang tattoos, I don't know anyone that has a bunch of ink because they wanted to fit in with a group.

Although, seeing a lot of tatted up people Does increase my desire to Also get more ink - so I suppose it's somewhat socially contagious.

But at least in my experience people get what They Want for themselves and their own personal reasons, so even if many have tattoos in their social circles, they're still very, very, individual and personal.

It's common for a lot of government and private organizations for unofficial recognition of affiliation. Along with scarification for the same thing. For achievements, reminders and milestones too. I don't really see the point in it for affiliation, but many apparently do.

Achievements, reminders and milestones make more sense to me.

Yeah, I guess.

Rights of passage, warriors, milestones etc. Teams, projects, achievements etc. I guess it's kind of common to have tattoos to fit in with a variety of groups besides gangs.

Getting a tattoo that expresses hatred of a particular race might tend to shorten one's life . . .

. . . especially in prison.
