How do you Harness your Creativity?

An Apple Mac + Quicksilver + a Getting Things Done (GTD) application for collection of thoughts.

I think to successfully complete a project whether its homework, art etc you need to know what the result is and plan accordingly.

The core problem is creativity is mostly rooted in inattention. But getting little to no work done is also often rooted inattention. Which means the most creative people produce the least amount. An insane homeless man alone under a bridge laughing at his own daydreams for example is about as highly creative as a person can get.

A highly focused person that can get alot of work done might be extremely boring uncreative person.

I assume those that do get alot creative work done have some how found a balance in the extremes. But I think such people might be rare.

Treating inattention with stimulants can give a person the focus to get more work done but it likely reduces creativity to. Maybe spending part of the day thinking off stimulants and part working on them might help find a proper balance. So ounce you have the idea in your mind mostly worked out. Drink a big cup of coffee and draw it. :)

This is a conundrum I often deal with. I have a very high creative IQ but am yet to express anything as detailed as I see in my mind externally. I do however think that it comes down to practice, and with my work and study schedule the way it is at the moment, this is not happening.

For me the ability to express more vividly my creativity I need to be very relaxed, and for a period of time. Roughly in the order of a week or two.

I also love to read only non-fictional materials.

Yeah, that inattentive thing seems to be my main problem. Guess I just need to strike a balance where I can. Thanks for the insight into that stuff, and good luck to all the rest of you that have this issue as well.

Writing? I can't imagine writing more than a paragraph and that would take me all day. I could maybe help a novelist out with their book. They could sub-contract out little sections that they didn't feel like writing. "Hey, write me up about 6 lines about the main characters car..." That could work.
My creative outlet is digital photography. It seems like the perfect aspie pursuit. It allows me to get all techy with shutter speeds and f-stops and depth of field charts and software, it gives me something to hide behind in a crowd, and it gives me a subject to talk to people about. People seem to really like when you take a flattering picture of them doing something cool. I've been shooting a local roller derby team for about a year and I get tons of nice emails when I send them the pictures.
Just be careful not to come across like a stalker!
