I wish I had a pet cane toad.
They killed toadzilla.
I know they are a horrible invasive specimen but I really like toads.

^ You know they have poisonous secretions, right? Small pets can die from trying to catch them. Some people get high off the secretions.

I like toads, but these guys are horrific.

My electric bill runs $200-$300 depending on season.

@Ferr Don't forget suckers like us live in cold, nasty Northern climates.
And hot, humid, nasty summer climates.

That's a lot of heating and cooling that other people who live in giant outback estates don't have to think about unless they're dodging fires and floods.

Below zero ( December)this winter and over a hundred last summer.

Depends on the time of year. Summer is higher when the AC is running. In winter I have gas heat so the bill is low.

So anywhere between $60 and $110. 2200sf house.

Winter can be -30 ish.
Summer can be + 40 or more Celsius (110 ish with drenching humidity)

The gas company and the water company send me sporadic bills for an uneven amount of days at a time, with an inconsistent interval. I honestly can't say exactly how much a month but I know I pay more for gas in winter, both in terms of usage and market price of gas. Those two companies are a headache.

The electric company has their s**t together though, they've been good.

That would be frustrating. My gas bill is based on the previous year's consumption divided by 12 months, same as my electric. I use the dishwasher every day if not twice a day because I have a phobia of touching water to wash up. I also have AC which was on 24 hours a day April until November last year, in addition to fans. There's no time of year where I don't need AC or heat because my upstairs gets really poor air flow (it's always unbearably hot or freezing cold). I need all new windows because I can even get ice inside my windows in winter since the seal is gone, but I've been quoted over $20K if not closer to $30 or $40. I'd rather freeze my arse off when I'm up there.

Water is billed every three months, and it's usually about $650. That's just for water going out. Heating it is part of my electric bill. I use very little electricity since I can't tolerate electric light and I don't watch TV or use a radio, but prices add up regardless as I'm sure you know.

I forgot to add I also pay about $120 / month in the summer for landscapers to take care of the grass etc., and it's $70 / pop every time it snows so I don't get sued by the postal service for having snow and ice outside.

Home ownership sucks.

It's insane. I don't even shower every day.

I've never used a garden hose.

My mother has an inground swimming pool that needs water added when it evaporates.
Her water bills are closer to $1000 / 3 months in the summer.

She doesn't swim or use the pool.


My big question here is WTF is going on in the UK?
How do they even justify such massive jumps in the electric cost?
What caused this?
How are they dealing with resultant poverty, homelessness, and depression or DV?

I feel so bad for you Ferr, and everyone else dealing with this financial abuse.

My latest monthly bill,I don't have gas, was just under £400. I live in a small flat( but adequate size for me) consisting of kitchen-lounge, bedroom and bathroom. Energy crisis or not the prices are ridiculous. We have an intellectually and morally bankrupt Tory government more concerned with shareholders making as much money as possible, than how these very high prices impact on disabled/poor/vulnerable people. It's Capitalism at its very worst.

Are there any energy assistance programs for low income to help with that?
I get Llheap, it pays my electric bill for about two or three months in the hottest months of summer and does the same in winter.They send a check for a tad over $200 direct to my utility provider.
