The Golden Rule is the principle of treating others as one wants to be treated. Various expressions of this rule can be found in the tenets of most religions and creeds through the ages.[1] It can be considered an ethic of reciprocity in some religions, although different religions treat it differently.

What is the Golden Rule? I have wild imaginings of what it could be now.

"Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".
"Dont do unto others as you would not want done unto you".

Thats "the golden rule".

Pretty simple.

The first sentence was said by Christ in the Sermon on the Mount.

The second sentence was said by the Rabbi Hillel when a student asked him if he could 'recite the whole Torah while standing on one foot":

"That which is hateful to you, do not do unto your fellow. That is the whole Torah; the rest is the explanation;[a] go and learn."

Oh in that case I'm a big fan of the Golden Rule and used it most of the time!

I was imagining it was something to do with money and Donald Trump's golden elevator in his tower, or whatever it is!

So many things... If we had social justice and equality, and everyone's basic needs like housing, health care, education food, and water were met, as well as their human rights; if the natural world were no longer being destroyed, including and especially by the ravages of climate change, just to name a few.

It seems like all the important stuff that Bee mentions is getting side-lined in favour of earning/gathering vast amounts of money. It's all topsy turvy!

Perhaps a controversial take, but I've always hated the golden rule. It assumes that the person wishes to be treated well. This always used to bug me as a kid because I thought of myself as inherently bad, therefore believed I should be treated as such. Always made me wonder if I was supposed to treat people poorly since that's how I wanted to be treated, since I believed that's what I deserved. Just a bit of a heads up that kids might not always interpret that rule as intended! Especially if they're in a not so great headspace with a lot of negative self-talk.

Anyway, wouldn't it be good if...

- We limited the amount of people who can apply to a job position, therefore encouraging and allowing employers to actually read CVs rather than relying on AI to sort through applications, increasing the chances of reaching a human before rejection?

- We got rid of all these recruitment agencies that won't tell you the name of the company they're representing? Just let me apply to the job directly!

- We became so good at creating synthetic wood that cutting down trees for resources seems near absurd? Possible downside - an underground black market selling real wood pops up.

- We followed in the footsteps of New Zealand and banned people born in 2009 and onwards from buying cigarettes? Therefore gradually preventing future generations from picking up the habit.

- This is going to be majorly controversial and incredibly British but - if the monarchy became a thing of the past? Seriously. The idea of modern day royalty does not sit well with me. How much money are we giving to the royals? Why? Surely they don't need that much property! Why am I supposed to care about them?

Thanks for that because it made me realise something! I grew up thinking I was a bad person, I still often do, so maybe subconsciously I treated people poorly. I felt bad about myself so I wasn't enthusiastic to see other people, thinking 'why do they want to speak to such a bad person?' and they thought I didn't like them.

It's only very recently that I've realised I'm not a bad person after all.

No, because I'd be sent to hell for sure. And I'm practically in hell as it is.

Wouldn't it be great if acquiring new levels, powers, and skills in on-line video games required solving complex math problems generated at random?

Better yet, apply the same requirement to access on-line porn sites!

Think about it . . . only those who understood differential calculus could access the most hard-core XXX videos.

Wouldn't that be great?

Wouldn't it be good if they still wrote music like this?

wouldn't it be good if all women had proper reproductive care and a bodily autonomy to choose if they want to have babies or not?

8O No, absolutely not. I play video games to fly around breathing fire as a dragon, or to become in-debt to a Tanuki so I can live on peaceful island, not cry over maths!

If video games started doing that, I'd either download a mod to solve them for me or as a way to by-pass or disable that feature. I'm sure a team of modders would be more than happy to make such mods since there would definitely be a demand. Also, there's almost always a way to turn on debug mode and disable certain features. Not so much when it's an online multiplayer, since some disable cheats. However, if there's a will there's absolutely a way. Modders would turn this bit of code into absolutely anything. Plus a drop in sales would mean such a feature would be dropped pretty quickly.

Alternatively, I could buy old consoles and games. There's plenty of old DS games or Wii. Plus a significant amount of Switch games that you can play offline.

I'll second this.
